| Offensive Player of the Week (2/9 - 2/15) joaquin DENOYA The lean, mean Argentine machine led the team in scoring for its inaugural game. Denoya, known for his tremendous quickness and aggressive play, fired up several three-point attempts in the first half. While he finished the game only 1 of 7 from three-point territory, Denoya's ability to get inside the paint after almost every shot accounted for most of the team's offense. Denoya connected on 7 of 9 shots from inside the 3-point arc and set the tone for the second half of play. His full-fledged offensive effort resulted in 17 of the team's 42 points. Defensive Player of the Week (2/9 - 2/15) larry PENNEY-FURINO They don't get much more defensively stalwart than the team's own Ben Wallace. Penney-Furino pulled down 14 rebounds, 12 defensive, and rejected 4 Slam Dunk shots. Throw in a steal and it's not hard to see how Slam Dunk finished with only 18 points in the game. And how often did Slam Dunk get second-chance opportunities? Not often at all. That's because Penney-Furino followed up his strong defense with a clinic on boxing out. Teamed with a strong front line, Penney-Furino helped the team hold on to its first win. Sixth Man of the Week (2/9 - 2/15) jim KEBA and luke BOWEN (tie) Why two players? Because both made the necessary plays off the bench in order to ensure the team's first win. Keba showed his ability to play both guard positions, coming in as a 2-guard and finishing the game leading the team in assists while also registering a pair of steals. And Bowen? The team's captain finished the game with ideal numbers for a sixth man: two points, a rebound, a steal, and two blocks. The ability of both players to impact the game on a variety of levels sealed an impressive win. |
