Origin: London, England
Emily was a rather lonely girl. At eleven years old, she had already
seen
more trouble than she would have liked. "Why did my parents have to go
and
get a divorce?" she thought angrily in her room. "It ruined everything!
I
had to leave all of my friends and move to LONDON of all places with my
weird mother."
Emily and her mother, Cassandra, and father, Steven, had been living in
the
United States. Both of her parents were from England, and because of
her
fathers job, they had to move to the US. "Well, at least Mom is happy.
She's
really missed her family and friends here in London. . . But now, I'll
miss
my friends."
While she was very attractive with long blond hair and light blue eyes,
she
preferred to be alone. Because she liked to be alone, Emily was used to
finding things to do by herself. She liked to read, in fact, she would
usually get through a long novel in a matter of days. Ironically, she
was an
extremely outgoing girl. She easily made friends, no matter where she
was
put. Part of the reason was that Emily was extremely good at
understanding
other people and empathizing with them. Sometimes, after her mother and
father had a fight, Emily would be the person that her mother would go
to,
knowing that Emily would understand.
Her mother had assured her that she would make plenty of friends in
London.
"How am I going to make friends here if I'm not even enrolled in a
school
yet? Maybe Mom thinks that she has to find a special school for me,
because
I'm smart or something..."
The reason Cassandra was holding out enrolling her daughter in
London
was that she was hoping that Emily would be accepted into a special
school; a school that you did not have to apply to. You see, her mother
was
a full-fledged witch. Emily did not know, but her mother had attended
Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. That was part of the
reason
that Cassandra had moved back to London with her daughter after the
divorce.
"All of the American Witchcraft schools suck, so why don't I move her
back
to London for a chance at Hogwarts?" her mother had thought. So that
was
what they did.
Emily was a very intelligent person. At her school in the US she had
always
placed top five in her class. "Maybe she'll be put in Ravenclaw. . . "
thought Cassandra. "That was my house too. . ."
Emily had no idea that her mother was a witch. Her parents had never
told
Emily because her father was a Muggle, or a person with no drop of
magic in
their veins. "Besides, that was most of the reason that Steven and I
got
divorced," thought Cassandra.
There was no reason for Cassandra to be worried though. The first week
that
she and her daughter were in London, a letter came for Emily. A barn
owl had
brought it before Emily had awoken, so Cassandra saw who it was
addressed to
and was overjoyed. "Thank goodness she got accepted to Hogwarts,"
thought
Cassandra.
Instead of giving Emily her letter right away, Cassandra woke her up,
and
told her that she was a witch. At first, Emily did not understand, but
Cassandra explained everything. After about an hour of talking,
Cassandra
finally showed Emily the letter. "Emily, darling, I believe that I have
found you a school. . ."
"Oh. . . wow . . . isn't this where you said that you went?" said
Emily,
clearly very excited.
"Yes, that's where I went to school. I loved it, and-"
"So that's why we moved back here, isn't it? You want me to go to
Hogwarts?"
said Emily.
"Yes, that's why we moved here. I wanted you to get the best magical
education possible, and Hogwarts is the best, everyone knows that. Now,
there's a list of things that you're going to need for this year, and
that
might take some time to get. Do you have any plans for today Emily?"
"No Mom, we can go shopping as soon as I get dressed!" said Emily as
she
raced upstairs to change. "Finally, I have something to look forward
to!"
she thought. "I can't believe that I'm a witch. . . "
