Normal
This is the job all characters start on(execpt Cara). In this job charcters can equip anything.

Knight
The main fighting job. Knight's gain abilities that protect others or increase attck power. They can also get the Two Handed Sword ability.

Thief
The main advantage of this class is being able to see secret passage ways. The Thief has the ability to steal from opponents and later deal damage and steal at the same time.

Monk
The Monk can not equip weapons(unless you have an equip ability) but still does alot of damage. One of the reasons for this is it attacks twice. Monk's get self healing and attack build up abilities.

Black Mage
The Black Mage is the main damage spell guy. They use black magic and gain abilites that let them use more black magic.

White Mage
The White Mage uses healing spells. They gain abilites that let them use more White magic.

White mage

Archer
The Archer attacks using a bow and therefore attack from the back row. They get the ability to call their "Animal Friends" and also to shoot 4 times in one go.

Bluemage
Blue mages have the ability to learn the moves monsters use on them. They also get the ability to see information about enemies.

Red Mage
Red Mages are a cross between Black Mages and White Mages. They learn both whit and black spells but can only learn lower level spells.

Caller
Caller's have the ability to summon magical beings in battle. Some of these include Bahamut(fire damage) and Pheonix(fire damage+Revive).

Dancer
The Dancer can do a random dance which either effects your party or the enemy party.

Berserker
The Berserker acts as if it has a Berserk spell cast on it.which means they have heaps of attack and you can't control them.

Mystic Knight
The Mystic Knight can cast spells on his sword to enhance its attack. This can get quite good later on in the game when you get the really powerful spells.

Chemist
The Chemist starts off with the ability to use potions and ethers at double effect. Then they get the ability to mix items to do extra damage/healing/effect in battle. Nextt they get the ability to heal the party completely of ailments. And finaly they get the ability to revive their entire party to full health for free.

Samurai
The Samurai gets the ability "GP Toss". This uses up a portion of your money to do anywhere from 400-4000 damage to the enemy.

Dragoon
The Dragoon has the ability to Jump. This makes the charcter jump out of the screen for one turn and then fall back down on the enemy doing about double damage.

Ninja
The Ninja has exchanges defense for attack and agility. They gain abilities such as "Evasion" and "Two-Weapon Fighting".

Elementalist
The Elementalist uses the power of nature to do damage and heal.If you have an Elementalist in your party you don't take damage from damaging squares such as lava.

Monster trainer
The Monster trainer can capture monsters that are on low health and then release them on the enemy. The captured monster uses its most powerful attack.

Time Mage
The Time Mage uses Time spells such as "Quick" and "X-zone".

Mimic
The Mimic is a secret charcter that you can get by going to the sunken tower and fighting the Mimic there(when fighting the mimic don't press anything or it will copy you, just wait until he starts talking). The Mimic copies the last thing a character in your party did. For example if Lenna used "Gp Toss" and then Butz used "Mimic" then Butz would use "GP Toss" as well but you would not lose any extra GP. Also Mimics can choose 4 abilities for their fighting menu but don't automatically get "Fight" and "Item".
