Back to: Index.html
Amanda is connected to the name of Rimbey, for this is given as her maiden name in 1885 at birth of a child in photocopies of documents from the Missouri State Archives.  Her mother married William B.  Rimby (on 28 Sep 1859) following the death of her first husband.(Married George W. Pate 02 Oct 1853).  Amanda's  parents  Pate are listed on her death certificate filled out by her daughter.
Amandas Brothers: W. S. Rimbey of Muskogee, OK and S. H. Rimbey of Cheyenne, OK --Are listed in the Obituary of Amanda Pate Newton.   Note:In Mo. Archives documents of two children's births,  she was called Amanda Rimbey. This is because her mother married William Rimbey after Mr. Pate died.
Information of names of George Pate and Sarah Jane Swift source: Lois Boon Newton.
Obituary: Trench Echoes, Robert S. Thurman Post 13 Joplin, Mo. Rites for Gold Star Mother. August 28, 1940 appears to be copied from the above obituaries.

More About WILLIAM NEWTON and AMANDA PATE: Marriage: September 05, 1880, Bolivar, Polk, MO17 Photocopy of Amanda Bible Record with Jim and Rose Newton. Still hoping to find documentation in state
records. So far have not seen where the minister filed his "returns" as he was supposed to.
However , the
people listed as witnesses are in the Census liiving nearby during those years. It is interesting that though Amandas Bible gives their marriage date, William was listed as living with his in Laws Robert & Margaret Bean along with his two sons in the 1880 census --after the marriage date. !  John Bean Brother in law was there also. They did go on to have a large family and one sone was raised by Pates and ours was  "on his own since he was 13."
