Oral History notes from Rose Newton's visit with husbands uncle Roy Newton July 3, 1992. Earl was born in Miami, OK. Newtons went to Howell County MO (West Plains area) and came back to OK when he was 18 years old. Roy said he married 1933 when he was 31 years old. He said further he saw a car the first time in Missouri, it was a buggy without a horse!  He saw his mother (Emma Ann Williams Newton) baptized in a pond at New Liberty Church, West Plains, MO.  He said he was saved and he and grandpa were baptized in 1927 in 4 mile creek near Mount Zion Church .(Outside Miami, OK, his folks were charter members of the church.) Roy said that when his brother Edgar Newton and Vivian Graham were married, he took them to the train in a wagon so they could come to OK in 1918. He said the (Henry) Newton family went to see Henry Newtons brother William Francis Newton  in 1929 in their New car.  (We have learned this family lived in Leeton, MO-Warrensburg area.) that his father Henry was a Quiet man. He died on a Sunday evening. He also saw his Grandma Williams die.  (Henry died one day Grandma Williams the next.)
He remembered when his uncle Luther Williams went to stay with his mother Emma Williams Newton.  Luther was blind from a horse kick. He spilled his tea and his sister  Emma did not see it and slipped and fell and broke her hip.  (The children took turns caring for her and part time she was in a nursing home until it healed.) Uncle Luther Williams finally went to a home for the blind.
A Great Genealogy Enthisiast Buddy: (Uncle Roy really was interested in the Newton history and raked his memory over the years to help. He told me of when the family lived in West Plains, Howell County MO before coming to early Ottawa County Oklahoma.  He talked to his sister Goldie and brother Earl on my behalf.  I inherited his wifes antique sewing machine.   He remembered his step grandma the  widow of  William Gilbert Newton  (Amanda Pate Newton)  lived in Webb City and had daughters (Flora and Alice) that cooked good meals. This was remembered by his sister Golda Newton Darnell also. The girls made good macroni and cheese!   1983. Uncle Roy was a lifelong friend of Donald Dungan, the step father of Rose Sheldon Newton who lived in the KS OK border area most of his life.  He lived to in his 90's - I miss him!  He was a good sweet Baptist man.
