September 20, 2008-New Movies -I've just added three items to Roy's Movie Page. 1One is a vid that Michael Luce posted, some time ago, of Roy and his friend Al Miller, conversing at Home County Folk Festival, a year or two ago. 2Another was shot by Teresa, of City Lights fame, of Roy singing That's All Right. She was just learning to use the cam. That's why the picture is sideways! 3And I wanted to join the fun, so I posted my first YouTube Video, ever ... a very amateurish capture of Roy interacting with Caitlin, on a Richmond Row Saturday Night. I know it's bad, but I think it'll give people an idea of what it's like, out there. {I spent part of the time trying to figure out how to turn the camcorder off! But editing helped!} 4ALSO, I was going to add Josh Kish's introduction to his Roy movie, but the London Free Press website seemed to be experiencing difficulties. FLASH! It's okay, now (!!), so I'm gonna go right back and put Josh on our Movie Page!! If you're searching for Roy at the LFP website, he's on the '501-510 of 631' page.
June 11, 2008-Spam -We've been getting so many graffiti-type spams, on the Guest Book, lately, that, as of now, I'm starting to screen the entries. This has nothing to do with freedom of speech. Even if you don't like Roy (hard to imagine) and want to tell him so, that's fine. Any legitimate entry will be approved. I just want to see if we can stop the spammers by discouraging them. We'll try this, for maybe a month, and see how it works.
More Comments -Also, I've eliminated the More Comments section, on the Guest Book because, in spite of my October 22 entry, about giving more space for comments, no-one has been using it ... except, of course, the spammers!!
Email -On a completely different note, some people have said they'd like to send us email, but can't find the link. Well, follow me. It's at the bottom of this page, as well as the previous one, and it's BLINKING, BLINKING, BLINKING!
May 16, 2008-Sarah Says -Last Friday night, out on Richmond Row, a radiant brunette, Sarah, informed us that "Roy is not just a dirty old man. On top of that, he's cultivated and intelligent." ... and I think she included some other choice adjectives! Perhaps Sarah Says will become a regular feature, on this page! I'd like that! (By the way, Sarah, nice dress!!)
March 24, 2008-London Film Fest -Joshua Kish has made a student film (seven minutes long), starring Roy. It was included, recently, in The London Film Festival, at Rainbow Cinema. I don't know for how long this link will be valid, so go to the the Roy Movie page and check it out, now!
November 18, 2007-Birthday Snaps -Roy's been after me to get more birthday pix up. (It's only been six and a half months! What's the hurry?) Seriously folks, you've already seen the pix from Teresa's camera, on her City Lights My Space page (see August 22 entry). Now, finally, you can view birthday pictures from Sheila Martendale's cam and from mine! Step right up to Roy Turns 70 !
October 22, 2007-Comments -Please be aware that, on the Guest Book, you get only three lines. No matter how good it looks, once you've posted it, it'll only be the first three lines that anyone, including Roy, will see. That's why I started a second Comments field, so that, now, you'll have six lines, in which to express yourself!
August 22, 2007-The Bridge -As I passed a young fellow, on the Blackfriars Bridge, a couple of weeks ago, he suddenly threw his fist up into the air and exclaimed "Long live Roy Mcdonald!". Just like that. That's all there is to the story.
Elvis, Again -Okay, I was just passing by and thought I should make a quick update. Very quick. I've had two Elvis/Rhinestone Cowboy sightings, since the last entry, once while I was with Roy. That time, El was wearing a red spangled hot-pant suit, and, more recently, he wore a yellow one! I mean, this guy has to be seen to be beleived! Everything matches, right down to the shoes and socks!
Valdy-We enjoyed the 34th Annual Home County Folk Festival, in Victoria Park (July 20 to 22). Valdy closed the show, on the Main Stage, on the Sunday night. I could have listened for another hour. He just improves, with time and age. Later, I took a snap-shot of Roy and Valdy together. Roy had been hesitant to approach the performer, but I heard Valdy say "Of course I remember you! There's only one Roy!" Then, Valdy saw me pointing the camera at them, so they drew together, for a pose. I will post that pic, here as soon as I get it back from the drugstore!
Fringe-I passed Roy, a couple of times,on my way to The London Fringe Festival (July 27 to August 6), but I didn't have time to stop. I know Roy was intending to Fringe, too, so I'm looking forward to comparing notes.
Roy's Birthday-For pix of Roy's June 4th get-together, at The Market, check the City Lights MySpace page!
July 1, 2007-Elvis -When Roy and I were busking, there was this guy, whom we found amusing, who would walk by us, some nights, dressed in strange clothes...bright colors...sparkly stuff...We referred to him as "Elvis". He was a loner, we never saw him talk to people, he never said anything to us. He would just, suddenly, come strutting out of the night, right past us, paying no attention to anyone. One afternoon, I encountered him coming out of the mall, and I gave him a friendly nod. That's when I discovered he's better than us! Some people mistake buskers for panhandlers, so, I assume, "Elvis" was above acknowledging a lowly street person, such as I. Okay, no prob.
Some girls told us they'd got him talking and he revealed that, in the country where he came from (wherever that is!), you go out in your finest duds, to show that you're well-to-do, a solid citizen. It's a matter of pride and self-esteem, I imagine.
He sure wore some fancy socks.
Anyhow, imagine my surprise, when, a week or so ago, I read, in The Toronto Sun that there is a Facebook group devoted to this guy!! They call him The Rhinestone Cowboy!
Talk about Laugh Out Loud! I haven't actually seen his page, yet, because I don't have a Facebook account, but I have photocopied the article and I'll probably show it to Roy, next weekend. I mean, this is funny!
June 18, 2007-Birthday -June 4, at The Covent Garden Market, went really well! A lot of well-wishers showed up! Most people signed the Birthday Book, which was a gift from Bill Paul, the Town Cryer, who was also the Master of Ceremonies, for the day. Some of the folks, I hadn't seen since, probably, when Roy turned sixty-five, at the same place, five years earlier, natch.
Roy told me, later, this had been the best day of his life. I think I've heard him say that, before. Does that mean it just keeps getting better?!
May 15, 2007-Arrival -Okay, now we're uploaded, to Geocities. I've created this page as a quicker and more convenient (?) way to keep you informed on what's happening in Roy's World. My name is Wayne Morris (there goes my behind-the-scenes anonymity). I busked with Roy from Remembrance Day, 1994 to New Year's Eve, 2001. During those seven years, we recorded two CDs, did school presentations, were the subject of several documentaries, and met lots and lots of people!! However, we go back even further than that. I first met Roy on September first, 1967. I'll tell you about that, sometime.
Today's entry, on the Main Page, is an invitation to the Benefit for Richard Negus. Roy and Richard have been friends since the Seventies. The concert has been organized by Michael Luce.
April 28, 2007 -Just getting started.
