12. Gustave Wilkins

Born 31st Oct. 1867 Record # 24777
Died 28th July 1935 at Royal Park. From Senility, Myocardial degeneration & Heart failure as certified by Dr.Alan B McCutcheon.
Buried in Williamstown Cemetery C/E 33 3 in unmarked grave but next to son John Henry Gustave Wilkins which has a headstone.

Address in 1900 - 40 Parker St. Last 92 Morris St W'Town.

13. John Otto Wilkins

John ( Jack ) worked on his mother tug boat until he was 25.
In 1897 he started working for the Melbourne Steamship Co. as a fireman in the steam tug ADVANCE.
In 1900 he was working aboard the tug SURPRISE that escorted the yacht of the State Governor Lord Brassey around the port.
During WW1 he worked on coastal mine sweepers.
Spent 14 yrs aboard the tug Keera which came out from England under her own steam.

By the time he had retired he had served over forty years as a stoker, as this article explains. [Article part 1] [Article part 2] These are worth reading, They give a good idea what the Yarra river was like in his days.

In 1900 resided at 6 Lennox St Newport
He died 31st Jan 1957 82yrs Record # 4302. Unable to locate his burial site as it is not in the Williamsrown cemetery.


15. Charles William Wilkins

Died 8th Aug. 1954 age 77
Buried in Williamstown cemetery C/E 0 13 9 Unmarked with wife Jane & son John Otto


17. James Henry Wilkins

James along with his brother Peter he took over the running of the family business after their father died in 1882, he was 22 yrs old.

Died 16th Mar 1933 Record # 1910 73 yrs.

Buried in Williamstown cemetery Meth G 5.5 4 with wife Susan The inscription reads
" In memory of our beloved parents Henry & Susan" " Re-United"


18. Peter Wilkins

Peter along with his brother James Henry took on running the family business when their father died, he was 21 yrs old.

Address in 1885 - Russell Place. 1899 60 Cole St. Mariner.

Address in 1900 - 3 Pascoe St
He was skipper of the tug "White Heather" after the family business folded.

He died on 26/2/1893 age 65 Record # 12195

Buried in Williamstown Cemetery C/E G 12.5 7 no headstone but is next to John Henry Gustave's on right side on . Together with wife Anne Marie, baby child Peter & Daughter Ida age 5 mths.

19. Robert William Wilkins

Died 17th June 1942 age 73yrs Record # 5886
Buried 19th June in Williamstown Cemetery C/E F 15.5 6 There is only part of the original iron railing left with a small name tablet with " Wilkins" on it.


Together with his wife Mary Jane & son Claud Leslie age 9 yrs.
