Inconveniences. They're little (and big) things that affect our everyday lives. The dictionary defines an inconvenience as anything that "is not favorable to one's comfort; difficult to do, use, or get to," bothersome, or unhandy. All of us can think of innumerable examples. The other day a water pipe broke at my house. Of course, it was finals day for summer session - so what's new? My dad needed the car to go to Lowe's, so my mom had to drop me off at school. The biggest problem, though, was that the water had to be shut off at my house. You never know how good plumbing is until you don't have it. No water to wash dishes, to shower, or worst of all...to wash hands and to flush toilets. American's lives are full of luxuries, the temporary lack of which sends us scrambling to find alternatives -- muttering and complaining the whole time. Have Americans and citizens of other industrialized countries set an all-time record for our (shall I say it?) level of laziness -- or at least dependence on luxuries? I think so. However, it did not hit me until very recently how far people are willing to go to satisfy themselves. The downward trend of American morals has led to an abysmal solution to one particular "inconvenience": the abortion of an unborn human child. I've been asked the question, "What are you most passionate about?" My answer is that I'm passionate about responding to current issues that directly relate to what Jesus Christ tells us in His Word. If someone asked me, "What makes you angry?", I would say, "Killing defenseless, unborn children because they are 'inconvenient'!" A popular defense of the pro-choice proponents is that it is not a baby -- it's a fetus. I've had one person compare a baby to a mass of cells and to a malignant tumor. Biologically speaking, this makes no sense. Two human adults cannot come together and produce offspring of some other species. Moreover, unlike a malignant tumor, babies do not typically lead to imminent death. In cases where the mother's life is in danger, labor can be induced. Medical technology has advanced to the point where premature babies are far more likely to survive than ever before. Therefore, it is possible for both mother and child to survive. Spiritually speaking, Psalm 139:13b-17 says, "...thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! (KJV) God knows us and thinks countless thoughts of us before were are even born. I cannot imagine the depth of God's sorrow (let alone His anger) when one of His creations is destroyed before he or she can even live. There is no excuse to murder a human being, born or unborn. That makes the next excuse infinitely worse. "A baby would ruin my plans for my education/career/life." Translation: "A baby would be inconvenient." Some of you may know the song "What Have We Become?" by dcTalk, a Christian band. The lyrics bring tears to my eyes. Allow me to direct your attention to one particular verse:

Mom and dad are fightin' As Rosie lies there cryin' For once again she's overheard Regrets of their mistake As Christmas bells are ringin' Little Rosie'd leave them grievin' The gift she'd give her family Would be the pills she'd take Ooooh oooh An inconvenient child Ooooh oooh She wasn't worth their while Chorus What have we become? Oooh, self-indulgent people What have we become? Tell me, where are the righteous ones? What have we become In a world degenerating? Ooh, ooh, what have we become?

Aside from the obvious solution of waiting to have sex until after marriage, a woman could put her child up for adoption. The objections: "these children may have emotional problems" and "not enough people want to adopt." So now we're killing babies because they might need emotional help. That is not a question; it is a statement of inconceivably horrifying fact. What evidence is there that an adopted (or un-adopted) child cannot grow up to become a successful adult? Therefore, it comes back down to morals. An America that no longer trusts in God, no longer has reason to accept His standards. According to what was taught in my anthropology class, morals are determined by world society. I can't tell you how much that scares the living daylights out of me. In a world that is going to Hell in a handbasket, even the Christian church has been influenced. This is my attempt at a wake-up call. Don't care what others say! The abortionists like to call a pro-life stance "anti-choice" or "anti-abortion." May I turn the tables of negativity and leave you with one last word? Anti-life.
