VISITORS

Tracey (USA) reports: `Gemma gave birth to a healthy baby boy - Benjamin Cory on the 15th March 2002 - 6lb 15oz'
On Friday 8th March 2002 the Club was delighted to welcome Barbara Barnett back from the United States (and now a Great Grandmother) - seen here comforting Roy Muller four weeks following his hip re-surfacing operation. Roy says: "The hip's fine - I'm walking miles every day - I'll be back on the mat in no time at all."

We warmly welcome visitors. We just wish they wouldn't knock the living daylights out of us!

A couple of years ago about twenty Belgian black belts invaded our dojo. They used us as cannon foder for the European Championships

A couple of months ago, two Romanian black belts danced around the dojo upending everybody - including - our World Champion Dave Walker!

Date: 11 November 2000 We were pleased to welcome a familiar face from the past at last nights training session:

Les Hudspith
Made a surprise appearance and gave us his 'thoughts for the day'. As a past British Midlands Champion, Olympic Squad member, Welsh Open Champion, Multi Forces Champion and World Sambo Silver Medallist, he is well placed to offer words of advice! We wish Les the best of luck with the new junior Judo Club he has started at Kenilworth Cricket Club - the first Judo club in the area. And we admire his enterprise in bringing Judo to the local schools (in Kenilworth).

Two Russians

Adrei Lukin and Konstantin Tinovitski

A young (19 year old) Russian Sambo/Judo player, Adrei Lukin 6' 6" wearing a blue belt visited the club last Friday with his coach, Konstantin Tinovitski.
Andrei is Junior Russian Heavyweight Champion in Sambo wrestling and holds the title of `Master of Sambo'. He is spending a week in Birmingham and one week in Manchester visiting different clubs in order to improve his judo skills.

Andrei's coach Konstantin has equally impressive credentials.
He is also a champion of Sambo wrestling and as Honary Coach of Russia, trains Olympic champions.

Ron Knight encouraged him to show us something interesting, which he did: an impressive combat move - leg lock - but not one which would impress orthodox Judo referees!

The `Queen Mother' (Barbara Barnett) was there to witness proceedings which ended with an exchange of gifts:

A sculptured wooden spoon for Barbara and two T-shirts for our Sambo champions.

We wish Andrei best of luck with his judo career and certainly expect to hear more about him in the future.
