Senior Grading News

Tony Sarwar - Brown Belt

Well done to Tony Sarwar for gaining his brown belt! Tony took part in a grading at the Walsall Centre of Excellence in February 2005. He had three fights and won them all convincingly by ippon. He went up from green belt to brown in one go. We will expect Tony to be collecting his points for black belt soon!

Mike Knight - Blue Belt
From Novice to Blue Belt! Big (brother) Ron Knight - Senior Coach - pointing at the belt, is delighted.

Congratulations to Mike Knight who gained his blue belt at a grading on 14th November 2004 at the Walsall Judo Centre. Mike has been training hard at the club and has gained a considerable level of skills. However, to be graded from novice to blue belt was spectacular! He devastated all his opponents by ippon, some in the first few seconds of his fights. We shall expect great things from Mike in the future!

The club is also proud to have been represented by Simon Weir 1st dan on the day. Simon who gained his Area Referees award exactly a year ago, was one of the referees at the grading.

Chris Bowen - 1st Dan

Chris Bowen, a regular at Solihull, gained his black Belt at a grading at High Wycombe on the 5th October 2004. He managed to win his last ten points to earn a well deserved dan grade.
Chris, who fights for the Royal Navy at u.73kg recently won gold in his own Weight Category and silver in the Open Weight Category at a tournament in Portsmouth.
We are bound to hear more about his achievements in the future.

Alan Burton gets his Brown Belt

Great news for Alan Burton - he fought hard at Walsall on the 11 July 2004, winning two fights, retired injured in a third, and in the process was promoted to Brown Belt.
