I was very saddened to hear that Peter Barnett had been taken to hospital. I saw him last at the Midland area A.G.M. only last month (May), and he appeared so well.

I remember Peter from the days when he was Olympic Coach. He ran the successful Area Squad at the Solihull training sessions in the 60's and the 70's. He was such a great motivator of players, that they appeared to work twice as hard for him as for anyone else. He was so very positive in training, that only way open for anyone to go was forward.

I remember that he railed somewhat regarding the privileges afforded to players and teams from the Metropolis as compared with the Provinces. I was a member of the 1969 Midland Area Team which beat London Area in the final of the National Team Championships. Peter drew my attention to the resultant photograph which appeared in the magazine, which invariably showed a photograph of the winners. "What do you think to this Ray?" Peter said. "Its a photograph of the losing finalists - London!"

Peter will be more than sadly missed. He was a great man as well as a good friend.
