Most of the Club members then were 1st Dan and above and a number were (and still are) very high class players indeed, but as a beginner I was not made to feel out of place. Enjoyment of the game, and a willingness to try one's personal best, were the qualities that are inspired.
The environment that Peter has created at Solihull brings out qualities from people of all sorts of ability.
I was well into my 20's when I started at Solihull and by no means a sportsman, but I have gone much further in the sport than I originally expected to.
As well as a sports club, Peter has created a great social atmosphere at Solihull, and I think that has been instrumental in keeping the club flourishing while so many other Clubs have fallen by the wayside. For this as well as the judo, many players travel regularly to Solihull from very far afield.
For me, Judo at Solihull has been one of my few regular and unchangeable `fixtures' for fifteen years now.
I am now in the veteran class, but with Peter's inspiration I will continue in the sport for many years to come.
