Peter Barnett 5thDan
1929 - 1998

John Hennessy 1st Dan

Birmingham

I have been fortunate enough to know and work under Peter Barnet since moving to the Midlands ten years ago.

In this time I have observed how he has analysed and thought about Judo. His visionary insight at understanding the elements of Judo techniques often has left him far beyond many of his contemporaries.

He deeply cared about coaching and often stated how imperative it is to have a strong coaching structure to develop coaches with sound technical knowledge and good communication skills to bring the sport forward.

Pete had a unique ability to motivate coaches and players alike. He made you want to turn up to his sessions for him - even if you did not always feel like doing judo! He created in many of his champions an ardent sense of devotion and loyalty towards him.

Judo will miss a great man with such insight, intelligence and integrity.
