Pete,
You were always more than just our judo coach. Judo was only the half of it - you made it fun. We had to try hard, sweat hard and laugh hard. I know if there wasn't much steam on the windows or sweat drops on the mat, you would shout at us to work harder.
One time playing hockey after judo, all the `old uns' played the `young uns', if they had any breath left. As usual it was violent chaos - us few watching (from the stage) were supposed to keep score, but there was always so much cheating, it was impossible!
The winner was first team to 10 goals and there had been a row as to whether the `old uns' were at 9 or 10. You stood in the middle of the floor, was passed the ball, you stood like a golfer, composed yourself, swung the stick right round over your head and whack! Hit it straight in the goal! And you shouted: "Now that's ten!" You laughed so loudly at the look on their faces.
Well, we have you to thank for bringing John and I together:
LOVE ON THE MATS
Most times when we fought on the ground you'd tell us to stop cuddling and start fighting. We were really pleased you came to our wedding. I won't forget our waltz. You're a good dancer. You're a great coach and we thank you for all the time and effort you devoted to us all.
Love always
Helen
