Peter Barnett 5thDan
1929 - 1998

Gordon, Carl, Grant and Margaret Vasey

Birmingham

Peter Barnett has influenced two generations of our family and I am sure it must be three or four generations for others. Not only is he possibly the best judo coach this country has produced, he is also one of life's gentlemen.

Peter has always been given respect from his fellow judo players and for anyone who has been lucky enough to have experienced his coaching will know why.

The things that Peter does that made him a loved coach is the fact that he takes an interest in everyone on the judo mat, no matter if they are a novice or a British champion. He also shows great patience towards you. When a week after correcting your throwing action, you have gone back to your old habits, he will spend time with you again to put you right.

The best thing Peter does is he motivates you to perform better.

Every Friday night he is clapping his hands and giving out words of encouragement that push you to train that little bit harder to reach your full potential.
