Our 1/3 Acre Pond

First day removing top soil. Top soil was 5 feet deep and very black and loamy.

Second day into solid clay, great pond building material.

Working on the dam, it's 15 feet high and 10 feet thick at the top.

Water after 6 hours being dammed up.

12 hours after dammed up.

Diverting water so we can finish the center of the pond.

Half full after 8 weeks from the spring flow.

Dogs love it already.

3/4 full after 12 weeks and a nice hard rain.

Trying out the new Canoe with the dog.

4 more feet to get to the top of the overflow pipe.

We are ready to stock the fish and other aquatic critters. 1500 Fat Head Minnows, 100 Breeder Shiner Minnows, 100 Rosy Red Minnows, 50 Blue Gills, 25 Crappie Bass, 25 Small Mouth Bass, 25 Silver Channel Catfish, 50 Walleyes, 25 Cray Fish, 25 Bull Frog Tadpoles, 50 Clams, 200 Trap Door Snails, and 1 culture of Daphnia which is a very tiny water critter that small fish and minnows feed on. We covered the food chain for the minnows and on up the line.

The fish and other critters were packed in plastic bags and placed inside foam coolers at the Hatchery when we picked them up. All fish and critters arrived at the pond in tip top condition.

50 Walleyes, Yum Yum:)

All done stocking. We also placed logs, tree tops, concrete blocks, and tera cotta pipes in the pond for structure and hiding places for the fish. We stocked the pond October 2002.
