DukeMatch Strategies
General Strategies
- If you run out of ammo, swallow the steroids and use the Mighty Foot on your opponent. You'll not only be moving faster, but your kick will do more damage.
- If you really love the shrinker (who doesn't), but every time you shrink your opponent, he gets away, try ducking. Not only will it piss your opponent off for you mocking him, but it will make him a lot easier to squish. If he won't be squished, try tossing pipebombs around and blasting them. It won't do any damage now, but when he resizes he'll take it all in one hit. Splat!
- Put tripbombs across teleporters after you go through them, then your opponent's in for a nasty surprise. Just make sure you don't go through that teleporter, unless you know the bombs have already been set off.
- There are 3 ways to tell the difference between a real Duke and a holoduke:
- Turn on weapon display mode, and there won't be a weapon floating above the holoduke's head.
- If you look at a real duke with the night vision goggles, he'll appear bright green. A holoduke just appears a dull green, like most of the environment.
- Holodukes don't have shadows.
- Place tripbombs high and low across doorways, and pipebobms on either side of the doorway. This is especially effective when your opponent is in an area with only one exit and has no explosive weapons.
- If you are having a hard time trying to shoot your opponent at a distance, try using the pistol. It is a actually the most effective distance weapon in the game.
- If you only have a couple of shots left in your pistol clip, and you are about to go hunting for your opponent with it, it can be a good idea to just empty the clip beforehand, so that you have a full one to take your opponent on with.
- If you're playing with version 1.3D of the game, and you run out of ammo, you can kick with both feet at the same time. Just press fire and the mighty foot button (the ~ key by default) together. It looks kind of weird, but it's quite effective.
- Try using the mighty foot together with other weapons that are safe to use at close range - it is really handy, as it greatly improves damage done to your opponent. This also works well in single player, by the way.
- Weapon display mode is a handy way to help find people hiding in or behind small objects, such as dumpsters.
- If you're sick of people hiding in dumpsters, place a bunch of tripbombs in them.
- If you feel like being a bit nasty, go around the level and place tripbombs on the walls at all the respawn points. Just make sure you don't get killed and respawn at any of the tripbombed points.
- If you know where your opponent is, and there is an elevator that he has to go up to get to another area, put tripbombs across the elevator at the top. Then hide and wait for you opponent to get into the elevator and activate it. While they're on the way up, put tripbombs across the bottom of the elevator. Now he's trapped and is going to have to go through the tripbombs if he ever wants to get out.
- Play with the monsters on. They can be an easy supply of ammo, especially if you pick "Damn I'm Good" difficulty where they respawn.
- Play with monsters, then freeze the Pig Cops, and they occasionly drop a shotgun or armour. Don't kill them, but keep refreezing them to get a nice supply of shotgun ammo and armour. Naturally, you'll need plenty of freezethrower ammo to use this trick.
- On levels which have teleporters linked in an endless chain (like e1l7 or e3l1), shoot several RPGs into the teleporters. The RPGs will cycle through the teleporters endlessly without detonating. This can generate a rather nasty hazard for anyone who wants to use the teleporters (or just go through the area where the rockets are flying), and if they get killed from your endless rockets, you get the credit.
Level Specific Strategies
Episode 1 : LA Meltdown
- Hollywood Holocaust (Level 1)
- Fill the toilets area with pipebombs and hide in the ventillation shaft. When you see your opponent come in, blast 'em.
- Place lots of pipebombs on the ledge with the RPG and hide in the apartment behind the cinema sign. When you see your opponent go after the RPG, blast the pipebombs.
- Death Row (Level 3)
- Lock your opponent in a cell, he knows you have him trapped. Then place pipebombs on either side of the cell door, and let him out. When he makes a run for it, blast the pipebombs.
- Faces of Death (Level 7)
- Put tripbombs in the underwater pods which contain weapons, and when your opponents tries to get the weapons, he's toast.
Episode 2 : Lunar Apocolypse
- Spaceport (Level 1)
- If you are looking for a hiding place, chances are you (and your opponent) haven't found it. If you fly right up the central shaft, you will eventually come out in a little observation area. This area has a few health items and three tripbombs (the only ones in the level).
- Get the tripbombs from the above area, and set them in the shaft. When your opponent flies up (or jumps down) the shaft he'll set them off, and get a nasty surprise.
- Tripbomb the teleporter in the spaceship near the start.
- Incubator (Level 2)
- Place a wall of tripbombs across the door at the start of the level. If anyone respawns here, they won't have any way to set off the tripbombs without walking through them. Even if they do survive, they'll be so badly hurt that it'll be a piece of cake to finish them off.
- Hide in the secret room behind the control panel in the room with the 2 windows, get out your RPG, and waste any poor sap who comes in.
- Lunatic Fringe (Level 11)
- Don't try to go out the exit, as you end up resizing too soon in dukematch, and will end up going splat and losing a point.
Episode 3 : Shrapnel City
- LA Rumble (Level 4)
- Set up a couple of walls of tripbombs in the sewer at the start, blocking off access to the pipebombs and the way out. If your opponent tries to go through any of these tripbomb walls, he's toast. Just make sure you don't ket killed and end up here, or you'll be stuffed.
- Freeway (Level 11)
- Hide behind the yellow masked wall in the room with the crusher. When your opponent goes into the crusher, shoot the cage closing switch, then jump out and hit the crushing switch.
Episode 4 : The Birth
- Babe Land (Level 4)
- Place tripbombs across the sewer pipe at the start of the level and under the drop from the end of the pipe. When your opponent respawns here, he'll have to walk through the trip beams and get killed.
