


The vibrant economy of Roxas City rest on its food production and processing especially marine products. The city's wide expanse of swampy lands interwined with network of brackish water have been converted into fishponds. The Fishing Port at Libas provides good anchorage and is the trading center for marine products. There are several sophisticated food processing plants in the city exporting their products to Japan, the United States and European countries. The abundance of marine products has earned for Roxas City the name Seafood Capital of the Philippines.
Roxas City is now moving towards commercialization and industrialization. It has become the center of retail trading in northern Panay. The establishment of the 30, 000 sq. meter Gaisano Mall, with its department store, first-class shopping amenities and popular food outlets, all fully-airoconditioned, has made the city a gathering place not only of Capiz but also of the neighboring provinces of northern Iloilo, Aklan, Masbate, and Sibuyan Island, Romblon.
A total of one thousand four hundred fifty two (1,452) business establishments were registered as of October, 2001 Operating in the city are fifteen (15) banks and several lending institutions. The city has eighteen (18) accommodation facilities, sixteen (16) restaurant and seven (7) convention/seminar halls. To help out businessman who wish in the city, a special body has been formed-the city of Roxas Investment Board (CRIB).
MARKET DAY
Sunday has always been a Market Day in Roxas City, As early as Saturaday, people from the nearby towns and as far as the island provinces of Masbate, Sibuyan and Romblon come to the cith with their products to be sold on the next day and at the same time to buy things that they could sell when they return to their respective places.
The center for his activity is the newly renovated Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center. It is the center of trade and commerce for the Capiceños and has been adjudged by the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran as the Public Market with the cleanest restrooms in the whole country for the year 2001.
