Old Capitol Rowing Club

Old Capitol Rowing Club (OCRC) in Iowa City, Iowa, is a community rowing club for men and women, devoted to recreational and competitive
sweep rowing and sculling. Founded in 1996, it currently has several adult members and a few junior members from City High and West High in Iowa City. Membership varies thru the years, but you are always welcomed to join!
Our group is made up of both novice and experienced rowers, ranging in age from 15 to 60+. We do not have set line-ups, but rather tend to assign seats based on who is at practice that day.
For those who wish, we also participate in regattas and sprints in the spring, summer, and fall. We also participate to the Mid-Winter Meltdown indoor rowing competition every winter.
During this spring and summer, we are holding practice on the Iowa River every Wednesday from 6:00-8:00pm and on Sunday from 3:00-5:00pm. Fall and winter practice times will be set later in the year. In the winter, from mid-November thru mid-March, we have indoor practices at the University of Iowa's Field House. We also offer Learn-to-Row Lessons in the spring, summer and fall.

Summer Learn-To-Row sessions are being scheduled beginning June 1st! These sessions will last approximately two weeks and are available to those 14 and older. The sessions will teach the basic rowing stroke, equipment, and commands. Intermediate learn to row sessions will be scheduled for later in the summer based on interest. If you are interested in learning how to row, please contact the boathouse coordinator [email protected].

The club is closely affiliated with the University of Iowa Recreational Services and we share the same boathouse as the University of Iowa's Women's Team and the Men's Rowing Club. We own several boats, including an 8+, three 4+, as well as one double, three singles and two recreational singles for sculling.
To allow for flexibility, dues will no longer be assessed at the beginning of the season. We are switching to a per-practice fee that can be paid daily or through purchase of a punch card. You can buy a punch card with 10 rows for $64 or you can pay $8 per practice. You may pay by cash, check (made payable to Recreational Services), or punch before practice.
The boathouse is located on the East side of the Iowa River, just North of the University of Iowa Memorial Union (IMU) in the copper section
of the East side of the Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories.

Please contact OCRC at [email protected] for
