Portal Activity

I found a variety of resources for my Portal Activity. Everyday at work I have to provide users of all ages with information. Some of these sources I use on a regular basis and others I found while reading about portals, search tools, and starting points. Overall, my favorite websites are: KidsClick, CIA World Factbook, Eduscapes, and Library Spot.

Eduscapes

I have grown attached to this site, I have used different sections of the website for projects in different classes. I also refer patrons to the 42 explore pathfinders when appropriate. (Educational Starting Point).

Discovery School

I really enjoyed exploring this website, especially the puzzlemaker section. I thought there were a great number of resources available for kids, parents, teachers, and librarians. (Educational Starting Point).

CIA World Factbook

I love this website. It is possible to get current information about any country in the world. It provides some great statistical informaion such as birth rate, death rate, internet users, transportation information, and much more! Overall, this website serves the purpose of providing factual information. (Educational starting point for children, teens, and adults).

Yahooligans

This web guide has many fun and educational resources available for students. The reference tools are valuable to younger students. (Search guide for kids).

KidsClick

There are a wide range of topics that kids can find infomration about such as the depression, dinosaurs, and many more. Each subject has multiple articles/websites that provide a URL, reading level, and discription of each material. (Ssearch Guide for kids).

Internet Public Library

The Internet Public Library has some great subject guides. There is also a kidspace and teenspace available with some great information. For example, kids can learn about HTML. (Library Portal).

Library Spot

Library Spot provides a wide range of information from top 100 lists to a reference desk. This may become one of my favorite websites! (Library Portal).

Homework Spot

I liked this Homework Spot because of the wide variety of information. It is like Library Spot, only geared more towards students, parents, and educators. (Educational Portal).

OPLIN

The Ohio Public Library Information Network is like INSPIRE in Indiana. It is possible to find Ohio libraries, use research databases, and learn about Ohio. I really like the OH Kids section. (Library Starting Point/Web Guide).

BBC Learning

I found some very unique information available at this website such as resources available on "Adult Learning" and "Personal Development." I thought it was easy to navigate and find infomraiton. (Starting Point).

Awesome Libraries

I found this website very interesting and informative. It is possible to find resources on all types of topics. Plus, it is also possible to play games, find search engines, and read current events. (Library Portal).

Google

When I have to use a search engine I usually go to Google. I think this search engine provides the most reliable information. I also use Google Image to find pictures and images for projects, websites, etc. (Search Engine).
