Infused Oils

Hot Infusion

Cold Infusion

Standard quantities: enough herb to pack jar, enough oil to completly cover the herb.
1. Pack the jar tightly with the herb and cover completely with oil. Put lid on and leave in a sunny windowsill or green house for 2-3 weeks. Strain well.
2. Repeat step one using more herbs and the once-infused oil. After a few weeks, strainagain and store.

Standard quantiities: 250g dried herb or 750g fresh herb to 500ml oil
Equipment: glass bowl and saucepan or double boiler, dark colored glass bottles with very tight toppers.
1. Put the herb and oil in a glass bowl over a pan of boiling water or double boilerand heat gently for about 3 hours.
2. Strain well and pour into bottle.

Note: When using root, stem or bark of herb use hot infusion method. If the oil will be used on the body, avoid using mineral oil, as it clogs the pores. If you're going to use homemade oils for massage, I recommend using a hydrasperse oil. Hydrasperse is a coconut dirivative that helps the oil wash out of linens. Keep in mind all oils go rancid and all oils can stain, even with hydrasperse.
