Subject Line: Whens the party, Mr. Frodo?

Mr. Frodo, happy birthday! Its your Sam! I know its kinda daft and impersonal to be writin you an e-mail greeting fer yer birthday an all. Therere reasons fer it tho. I explained better to Mr. Bilbo his e-mail is still
[email protected], right? Hope so!

Im still a bit muddled up with all this new confounded stuff. But its been such a WONDERFUL thing to get to chat wit ye so much!! Oh Mr. Frodo, how I ached the day youd gone! But then here was Strider (he hits me if I call him anythin but that, total daft bugger he is) with Miss Arwen, all yakkin about the new stuff that Gondor got. I almost didnt buy their idea, until theyd said the Grey Havens had gotten their OWN online stuff too!! Theyre workin on getting tellyphones in, and Miss Arwen SWEARS by this stuff they call soap operas. Aragorn didnt look all that happy wit it, but then again he was never fond of soap (much to our dismay, havin to be plastered to the man after ridin an sweatin ah, dear). Miz Lobelias been buggin me after what I been doin on that dratted contraption as she calls it. To think Ive only had it fer a week now and shed been by nearly everyday since she saw the cow printed box comin in.

Its a bit odd, but, lovely all the same!! I adored bein able to chat wit ye the other night. Is it really that warm out there right now? Good gravy, its been chilled to the bone in the Shire!! So cold and dreary lately. Yer gardens look so sad, but I made sure to be cuttin a good lot of them before they all wilted and died out. Ive pressed them and put them in a special book, like the one youd given me. Only this book aint fer me.

Hmm.

I have to cut this short, since Ive got a trip at hand as I type. In fact, Im not even at Bag End right now.

And I aint going back there neither.

I know its the hobbit custom for givin presents, but can you stand up and look out your window and watch for the ship comin in? Youd tole me you can see the shores from where ye are. Are there any ships yet? Last night youd told me you wouldnt be able to chat wit me until yer birthday night. Thats when the next and last ship to the Grey Havens is going to arrive, or so Ive been told.

Happy Birthday, mlove. Run out to greet me now, if ye please.

Love,

~Your Sam
