| New Zealand North Island continued...... | |||||
| Biggest Suprise: We didn't realise that NZ was as active as far as volcanos, earthquakes etc. are concerned Smelliest Place: Rotarua - due to all the gases etc bubbling up from the earth. Also, we got to see geysers, mudpools and steaming, lakes Spookiest moment: Sitting minding our own business having a picnic miles from anywhere, when the ground started to shake! About 20 seconds later it stopped. Another minor tremor for New Zealand, a scary moment for us! Top Host: Hughie Hughes (Welsh by birth, believe it or not) - a B&B owner who we booked in with for a nights accomodation. We ended up staying two nights - he let us borrow his car, use his e-mail, shared a few beers and wines with us and took us to see a local Moari family 'unveiling' ceremony, which gave us an opportunity to see some Moari culture close up. Worst dancer: DA on stage at a Moari evening doing "The Haka"!! |
