The St Catherine's House Group meets twice a month on a Thursday at 7.30 pm at 39 Gledhow Lane. There are 14 members in the group but usually 8 or 9 people attend at any one time. Ages range from under 40 to over 80 all contributing from their own perspective. We are just at the end of studying 'Time to talk of God' (A report of the Methodist Conference 2005 published by The Methodist Church). Using links to bible passages and quotes from prominent people in the church (Methodist and Ecumenical) each chapter led to discussion on how it related to us, and our church today. This book has been challenging and illuminating in our journey as disciples. We considered the 'blocks' to conversations about God within our church and looked for ways at overcoming them. |

The group is led By Sue Noble and Val Smith but other members have taken the lead when they have particular knowledge of a subject. Previously we used the York Courses for our study. The books were accompanied by a CD recording of thoughts on each topic from a celebrated group of clergy and famous people, which we listened to before our own discussion on the subject. We begin our meetings by sharing news and concerns and a prayer followed by a time of study. The evening finishes with tea or coffee and biscuits by about 10.00 pm. At Christmas and Easter we have an open evening where we share faourite pieces of music, poems, hymns and memories and have a faith supper. This is a very enjoyable evening and we encourage everyoneto bring their partners along. |
