| An Interview With Steve Quix Of Boston band, State Control |
| Levi RPP:Alright, who are you and what do you do in State Control? Steve Quix:I'm Steve quix and i sing and write most of the lyrics for the band LR:How long has State Control been together? SQ:about a year and a half LR:Where did you come up with the name for the band? SQ:haha we're all huge Discharge fans and its a decent name i guess LR:What were some of the main influences for State Control musically? SQ:i guess musically we're influenced by bands like Discharge (of course), and most fast Uk punk as well as some old US Hc/punk like Toxic Reasons..and a bit of newer thrashy HC. LR:What is the ideal State Control show in your eyes? SQ:A show were everyone watches us...haha just kidding..for me its to play with all types of punk bands not just the kind of punk we play. I like playing with HC bands and crust bands it usual is a fun show for us if we play those kinda shows and meet new kids and whatnot LR:Now compaired to most other Boston bands im familiar with, Unseen, AGT,Toxic Narcotic, and the older Disrupt, Your band as well as The Epidemic play different styles than what is usually familiar to Boston. How has this taken to the Boston punks, and the scene? SQ:I wouldn't really say we're that far removed from the bands you mentioned. we may be a bit darker but we fit in i think . The scene is not too bad a good amount of kids show up and theres no big problems LR:I recently heard State Control played in NYC with Rochesters very own Bldwlf. How did that go? SQ:That was an awesome show they were damn good and we had fun hanging out with them and the Casualties afterwards. I'd say that show was one of my favorites hands down. we hope to play with them again LR:Is there any plans for releasing any records in the near future? SQ:Yeah our Cd comes out this month (oct) on rodent popsicle(singer of toxic narcotics label) and we're going back to the studio to record an Ep for Charged records which i'm looking forward to LR:Now there seems to be a bit of resurfacing of D-beat, and Discharge styled bands in the past few years. Does State Control aim to stay in within the realms of this style? SQ:I wouldn't call us D-beat at all. We're just a HC/punk band who likes Discharge i mean don't get me wrong i like D-beat alot but we're a hell of alot diffrent LR:How do you feel about the more recent Discharge influenced bands Decontrol, Final Bloodbath, and Inepsy for example? And boy how about all those Portland bands? SQ:haha now thats the type of music i like alot. Decontrol is an amazing band.. Inepsy is amazing as well and i'm lucky we played with them and that they're my friends since not only does they're band rule they're really good friends. yeah Everything in portland is great from Defiance to Bomb heaven to the riffs its all good. I hope to move their one day LR:Haha, State Control a Portland band?Or just Steve Quix the portland citizen? And yes the Bomb Heaven 7" is golden. SQ:hahaha LR:Any chance of seeing State Control touring or coming to an area near me? SQ:yeah we just got a van so we'll be playing shows all over the east coast. We wanna come play in rochester in the future we just need a show there :hint hint: haha. I also wanna go play the west coast in the coming year so we'll see. LR:Thank you for the interview, Any closing statements? SQ:Yeah our Cd should be out the end of this month and we'll be playing out of state so check our website thanx for the interview and if anyone wants to book us my email is |
