AND THE OSCAR GOES TO..................................... The Oscar Show the Grieves Me the Most |
||
| I had high hopes for this years ceremony. Oscar was continually getting the awards correct. First Chicago wins Best Picture and the The Lord of the Rings, they were on a streak of the best films. Then comes this year. The nominees were The Aviator-my choice for best film of the year-Finding Neverland-A film that I myself didn't view, but all the people that I know who did claim it as possibly number two or three of the year-Million Dollar Baby-a film that I found over-rated when compared to both this year and Eastwood's directed films-Ray-not Best Picture worthy-and Sideways-the adult comedy of the year. And who gets the Oscar? Million Dollar Baby. | |||
| Sure it's a good film, but was it really the best of th e year? As far as I'm concerned this was a bad choice on Oscars part. I feel that they chose this film this year as a way of both giving Clint a second Oscar after he rightfully lost last year, and to keep Marty Scorcese from the Winners Circle. Million Dollar Baby was inferior to both Unforgiven and Mystic River and even a few Eastwood flicks that weren't nominated for Oscars. It's such a disgusting thing though. Now I must admit I did cry, but I also cried at other movies (Phantom of the Opera) and thought they were ten times better. The good things about this movie were Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman's performances. Morgan deserved his oscar, whilst Swank did not. Two women, Imelda Staunton and the should have won Kate Winslet, gave much better performances. Now the good parts of the show. Chris Rock was a genius pick for the host and I'd very much like to see him back. Also the choice for Cate Blanchett, The Incredibles, and Eternal Sunshine for their awards was very fitting. I liked the jokes from Rock such as his one to Sean 'partypooper' Penn. "Mr. Sean Penn, my accountants would like a word with you." The opening montage on movies was wonderful. A marvelous choice of all clips and the ending was as cute as ever. Also the awards given to the Aviator were good choices. As far as I was concerned The Aviator or Phantom should have dominated the awards, and The Aviator did, but Phantom sadly walked away with nothing. Also Clint Eastwood's speech and his mentioning of his mother was iconic. And the his little joke, "I saw Sydney Lumet out here and he's 80 and I said, hey I'm still a kid. I got a lot of things to do yet." The Low Parts of the Show. Clint Eastwood winning in the first place. Mike Leight or Martin Scorcese should have that Oscar. Plain and simple. Also I didn't really like the idea of Sean "P-diddy" Commbs presenting. Wasn't a good idea. Then the Sean Penn part. Did he actually think that people think Jude Law is that bad. Did he think that Chris Rock actually ment it. I mean get a sense of humor man. Even though it led to one of the best jokes of the night, it still was a low point. The whole idea of bringing the nominees on stage is bad too. I like it better when they all are in the audience and can hae that victorious jaunt up stage. Because all the people deserve it. It felt a little like Ms. America. I myself went 12/24. 50% compared to 86% last year. Well I'll hopefull have all the nominees and winners up, as you can see I'm far behind. Then I'll start on next year's hopefuls. Till then. |
