Best Adapted Screenplay
William Broyles, Jr.

The pic looks good but I'm starting to feel it's going maintstream too much by hiring Jake Gyllenhaal.  If he doesn't deliver the film could go the route of 'Road to Perdition' and we'll see only two or three technical nods rather than an acclaimed picture like 'Beauty.'
Jarhead
Akiva Goldsman

This is a film that's high up on my year end viewing list, actually is number four or five, and the fact that past Oscar winner Goldsman is penning the script can either be a good sign or a bad sign.  For now it's good.
Memoirs of a Geisha
Clara Bingham, Laura Leedy, & Michael Seitzman

Niki Caro scored big with Whale Rider and deservedly so.  Now she has the best actress winner from that year, Charlize Theron, starrin in her new film.  Though Caro didn't pen the script, it's an amazing story and if the film hits with any awards, the screenply will be swept up.
North Country

Proof was easily the film that, upon entering 2005, had me holding many doubts.  Then the trailer premeired and all those doubts went away.  Miller's screenplay seems to be the biggest predicted part of the film.

The story seems cliche at certain points, but is definitely intriguing.  I saw the trailer and was giddy the entire time and now can't wait for the film.  I feel that This is the most likely of all the films here to take home the prize.
