| In this shot, one can see the uppermost wing is ready for feathers .We will start the feathers tomorrow. The claws are blocked out. Tomorrow we will start at the top and detail our way down; by the end of the week-end we will be staining the pair. This way-tight grain of this slow growing mountain white oak will allow dyno-mite detail,so we might take an extra day. Chris has an exact picture of the finished piece in his mind; for me it's like unwrapping a Christmas present. I may think I know what it is but I'm never sure until the last (cut has been made and I'm staining the piece) chunk of paper is off and the box opened. It is that meld of style - and mix of the generations - that make our sculpture unique; not to mention 40-something combined years of sculpting. |
