Subject : Consciencious Objector Rotem Dan Mor

I present my case to you with the sincere hope that it is in your

Power to help further my case:

My name is Rotem Mor , I am 19 years old and have been serving in the Israeli army since 15.2.00 . This service is a part of a mandatory (by law) three year service of Israeli male youths to the army plus a lifelong service as a reserve soldier. I have  declared myself a consciencious objector of service.

I have long questioned the sincerety of my army service. These questiones began arrising long before I was recruited. They stemmed from information I had been acquiring  about the Israel – Arab conflict and the discovery of the disinformation I had been subjected to over the years about it . I found that the more I educated myself , the less I believed the ‘official’ Israeli version of events. This point of view is the moral premis on which most Israeli youths justify their army service. I had begun to realize how much hate and fear were instilled in me from a very young age. I found that I do not believe in the existence of an “enemy” , but of people of another culture who were just as scared and angry as I was.

I had learnt about the brutality of the Israeli occupation of the occupied territories , and even more of south , and all of Lebanon (during the Israeli  occupation of Lebanon which ended just recently). I had explored the contacts my country has had (and still does) with such brutal regimes as fascist Argentina , apartheid South Africa , the Sudan and many others. I had seen how Israel serves the American imperialist view of world order and was very alarmed at the dependancy both economically , and morally on the United States.

I believed (and still do) that the interests the army works for are not my own . With these strong feelings I entered the army , and the more time passed the stronger these feelings became and I had less and less space to express them.

During this time I developed as a person a perspective of life. This perspective includes such values as taking full responsibility for your actions , equality , individual thought and action ,  being truthful, fulfilment in life and many more which do not comply with the way I see the army being run. I find that the way the army achieves its goals is not in accord with who I am.

Finaly , I do not wish to give up those things which I DO consider to be valuable in my life like family , friends , community, personal growth etc in order to maintain a military way of life. For those reasons I have decided I no longer wanted or was intending to be a part of the military.

I choose not to be part of the army in any way shape or form. My cause is not to get people to agree with my position , but to allow any person (in Israel and otherwise) to object to military service on the grounds that it is not at one with his conscience. I believe that I (and anyone else) is a conciencious  person simply by stating such.  A person does not have to convince others in the sincerity of his beliefs since they are his own and are thus legitimate.

I have made my intentions public and have brought them to the attention of the Israeli authorities via a letter requesting my dismissal (which is attached to this request). letters like mine are rejected , as policy , by the Defence Minister of Israel.  Eventually almost all consciencious objectors in Israel end up in jail , which is most likely where I’m headed. I am asking if :

a.     You could contact the ministry of security via fax (9723-6917915 / 6916940 ) , e-mail ([email protected]) , or letters(Benjamin Ben Eliezer , Ministery of security , 37 Kaplan street 61909  , Tel Aviv , Israel  ) and state your support of my objection plus a demand to release me from prison.

b.    Raise awarenes for this issue amongst your community (internet and otherwise).

c.     Forward this letter to other organizations or people you think may be able to help further my cause.

d.    Think how my situation can further your cause and let me know. I would be more then happy to assist any organization or individual that can use my assistance.

I appreciate your taking the time to read this letter. Any assistance you can provide me is greatly needed and appreciated. I hope that my situation can benefit you too and that there will be much value in our mutual contact. Please contact me at

Yours Truly ,

Rotem Dan Mor
