The group have never really trusted Tess or accepted her as one of them, maybe they are just being paranoid or perhaps there really is something about her.
Having been married to Max in their previous life, it seems that their destiny is to be together as lovers, and although it breaks Liz and Max'z hearts, this is at some points, accepted by all those concernned. Tess even falls pregnant to Max, unfortunately Tess is swept away from Earth and taken back to her home planet, leaving Max, the father of her child, without his son.
Tess has the usual alien power to manipulate matter but also has the unique ability to 'mindwarp' others, which allows her to telepathically control the senses of others.
