"Yeah well after the whole thing with Isabelle the atmosphere kind of got lame. I was chasing after Max for the longest time to try and tell him what happened but�he just kept on running, he wouldn't stop."
"Are you sure it was him?"
"Yeah I was as close to him as you are me, I saw his face, it was Max dad, do you think I've gone delusional or something?"
"No. Goodnight Maria."
Jim found it rather suspicious that while Max was most definitely with him most of the night, his daughter was chasing him around town. Still, he also knew that keeping information secret, and gathering more of it, would be the best move. If there were for example a traitor, then this way they would have no means of covering their tracks.
Maria sneaked in a phone call to Liz to let her know what happened, and Liz, the forever friend she was, counseled Maria through it all, and confirmed Maria's feelings were right to have.
Meanwhile, in a darkly lit room in Roswell High, one student is not sleeping. It is Tess. She is talking to a man, who is sitting behind a desk.
"They know who you are�and about Kivhar�and about The Skins. They even know something about the changing of destiny."
"Unfortunate, true, but even given the information of our existence, they will still find themselves helpless in the end. And what prey tell do they know of you?"
"Nothing�I would know it if they did. They don't suspect a thing."
"What about the humans�they are getting in the way of things."
"Yes they do try�but I can take care of them, just like I did tonight."
Tess has a flashback of mindwarping Liz and Maria into following false images of Max and Kyle and then returning home, forgetting the importance of finding them.
"Tess�you do serve us well."
"Yes I do."
"Weak as they may be individually, we must not forget that together, all three can muster a recognizable force. To overlook our weaknesses, is to lose."
"I can assure you that you won't have them together when you don't want to." Tess smiles to herself.
Tess has another short flashback, in which she spent the previous part of her night, before being where she is now, mindwarping Michael and having him call Max to find out what happened. He thought it was simply something he decided to do, but it was her doing, he is the source of her information.
"In light of what you tell me then you must now understand the importance of always being prepared. Let them chase us. And while they do, let us laugh as loud as we possible can, because we will be right here, toying with them. Anyway my child, it is late�you have school in the morning."
"I shall see you in the morning then�Ms Topolski." Tess laughs to herself a bit as she walks off. Nasuedo sits at the desk alone, in the guise of Ms Topolski, tapping the gold plaque facing away from him. It says 'Headteacher'.
