Chapter 9

Chase seemed like a pretty nice guy to me when I first got there. I mean, he picked me up from the airport, and helped me get settled.  I figured he was an okay guy, boy was I wrong.

The first full day I was there, my aunt and her boyfriend John had to go into town.  I didnt realize at the time, but apparently going to town was an entire day excursion.  They left at 8 am, way before I was up.  When I finally stumbled out of my room at 10am the house was buzzing with the sounds of the television.  I saw Chase sitting in the living room watching some Mtv show, eating cereal.  He turned to look at me and I was suddenly embarrassed at what I was wearing.  I had slept in one of Doms wife-beaters, and a pair of his boxers.  Chase looked me up and down, and I wasnt embarrassed anymore, I was disgusted.

What you looking at? I snapped crankily at him.

One fine girl. He replied.

Fuck you

Sounds good.

Ugh, yeah right.  I was getting quite annoyed at this guy really fast.  Whens my aunt going to be back?

They went into town.

I know, when will they be back?

Probably about 10 tonight.

What?!? The prospect of spending an entire day with this guy was not exactly appealing.  Whatever, Im going to my room.  Please dont bother me.  I plan on pretending youre not here.

Feisty.  I like that in a girl.

Go to hell.

Mia I dont know what Im going to do about this guy, hes so immature!  I had called Mia from my only sanctuary in the house, my room.  Thank god it had a small fridge, and a connecting bathroom.  I cant live like this for a whole week.

Youre a big girl Let, you can handle it.  Plus your aunt will be home for the rest of the week right?  So today is the only day you have to be alone with him.

I guess youre right.  Hey, um hows.. you know

You mean Dom?

Yeah.  I was nervous about asking her about Dom.  I didnt want to seem desperate or anything.  I had promised myself I wouldnt ask about him, but I couldnt help it.  I was scared he might pick up the phone when I called, but thank goodness he didnt.  Jesse did, so I figured hed know that I called, but at least I didnt have to speak to him.

He was upset when he found out youd left without saying anything to anyone but me.  I think he was kind of offended by the entire situation.  He wont admit he misses you, but you should see him.  He mopes around the shop all the time, and barely gets any work done.  The boys miss you like crazy.  Vince keeps telling everyone how boring it is without you here.  We all miss you fighting with Dom, I didnt realize how entertaining it was until it wasnt happening anymore.  Youre really needed around here.  The shop is in shambles.  Nothing gets done, and everyone just kind of goes home after work because theres not one to fight with over Gran Turismo, or to pick out cheesy horror flicks for us to watch.  Come home now.

Wow, you guys really miss me?

Like you wouldnt believe.

I didnt think anyone would miss me.  Ill be home on Sunday, okay.

I want you to have fun while youre there, okay.  You never get out of California, I think its good for you.  Well all still be here when you get back.  Unless Dom does something stupid again.  We both laughed very hard at this, and then said goodbye.

After I hung up the phone, I sat down on the small twin bed and pictured what life must be like at the garage right now; Dom moping, Vince yelling about boredom, and even everyone going straight home after closing.  I couldnt imagine how I impacted everyone so much, but I was happy that I did.
