| Chapter 1 Shadow Boxer By: Fiona Apple She was baking in the warm Mexican sun on a sandy beach in Cancun. She couldnt ever remember being so relaxed. It was all over. The cop was gone, but not before clearing them of all possible charges, Jesse and Vince were okay, and Doms dream had become reality. They were really in Mexico. For once he did something he said he was going to. Her skin was darker since they had arrived; more of a deep bronze rather than tan, and the sun had brought out the subtle red hues in her hair. Dom had even apologized for putting her in danger. He actually apologized, that was rare with Dom, he hated to admit he was wrong, typical guy. And he had made it up to her the only way he really knew how, sexually. Not that that was a bad thing. The sex was great, it always was. The night they arrived they had gone straight to their room, and didnt come out till the next night. None of the team had said anything or asked any questions though. The guys ignored it, and Mia had just given them a look that said she knew exactly what had gone on during their absence. Sometimes she almost wished Dom had another way to express himself, but she knew that would never happen. Outside Dom was cold, hard. Prison had done him no favor. Inside though, the part of himself he only showed to the team, he was passionate and caring. But the only times she ever really saw that side of him was when they were alone, in bed. She pushed herself up onto her elbows. They sunk slightly into the sand, but she didnt really notice. The sun was starting to fall into the horizon. As afternoon turned to dusk, she began to gather her beach stuff, which consisted of a bottle of water, a pair of sunglasses, flip-flops, and a large towel with a pink hibiscus dominating its center. She wrapped the towel around her bikini-clad body and threw her other things into the straw bag she had bought at a store just down the street from the Holiday Inn where they were staying. She slipped her feet into the blue flip-flops and started back to the hotel. It was a short walk back to the hotel, but it was really depressing. She knew now why her mother had moved out of here. There had been many times in here childhood when she asked her mother why they ever left Mexico, and now she really knew. Everyone was poor here. There were children on every corner, begging for money or food. They all looked so sad, and she could barely look at them, she felt so guilty, like she had put them there. And she felt guilty that she had got out, and they were stuck here in this life. Soon she was back at the hotel, and away from all the sadness, or so she thought. She stepped off the elevator on the fifth floor. As she approached her room she could hear screams and moans coming from behind the door. Fuck no. she cursed to herself. She pushed her key card into the lock and flung the door open. There was Dom, fucking some Mexican slut on their bed, and he didnt even notice her. What the fuck are you doing? Letty? Oh shit, wait baby. Dont fucking baby me. What the hell is this? she knew very well what this was, but she wanted to hear whatever dumbass excuse he would come up with this time. Dom threw the young girl off of him, and clean off the bed. She landed on the floor with a resounding thump. Baby, its just sex, it doesnt mean anything! Just sex? Fuck you Dom. And off she went calling him every name in the book. Screaming in a constant stream of English and Spanish. The Mexican girl got up from the floor and covered herself with what could only be her dress. She looked down at Dom who was covering his lower half with a blanket, and then she looked to Letty who was still screaming in Spanglish. She seemed to be quite confused with what was happening. She spoke to both of them in very broken English. I not understand? That just made Letty even madder. She screamed Its over at Dom and slammed the door. Letty! Dom called through the door. Fuck! *You made me a Shadow Boxer baby I wanna be ready for what you do Ive been, swinging around me Cause I dont know when youre gonna make your move.* Letty walked to short distance down the hall to Mias room, and pounded her fists against the door. Mia answered in a sundress, with a towel wrapped around her head, she had apparently just gotten out of the shower. She could tell by the angry fire in Lettys eyes what had happened. Mia tried to smile and placed a hand on her back, ushering her into the room. Mia locked the latch on the door behind her. She knew Dominic wouldnt be far behind her, and he had a key to the room. It was too soon to expect Letty to want to see him. She took off the towel and shook her hair. It was almost dry anyway. Letty sat on the bed and kicked off her flip-flops. Why do I stay with him? Mia sat down next to her Because you love him, and you keep hoping hell change. She replied sympathetically. I dont know why Im surprised. Its happened before, and itll happen again. And yet every time it does, he promises hell change, and for some reason I always believe him. She sighed. |
