Once Max regains conciousness (from last episode - tho i may have mixed up the end of that with the beginning of this, my tape just ran on and i couldnt tell where they stopped and started) the producer Cal (?) places his foot on Max's face and demands that Max tell him why he is there, who he is working for, and why he thinks that Cal nows where the spaceship is. After a few smart replies, Max says that Cal knew it was in Utah. Max says that Cal was sent there to protect them and that he needs his help to save his son. Cal says yes he was to protect them, but that was 50 years ago. Cal stops the fire, allows Max to get up, calls his security guards, and gets Max escorted out.
Isabel, meanwhile, is planning her wedding. Her mother forces her to meet up with a wedding planner. Isabel wants a country wedding - in a field or a barn. Her mother says IF this wedding is going to continue she has to be realistic. Isabel is not too happy about the 'if'. Jesse turns up and the planner gushes at what a lovely couple they are. Isabel's mother isnt too happy still. Isabel and Jesse want the wedding in Spring (very soon). Cal is schmoozing at a hollywood party. Max turns up and pretends to be old friends with Cal saying they have to talk about their 'project', forcing him to talk.
Liz and Maria are getting excited as Liz anticipates Max's call that night. Isabel shows up and says she and Jesse are getting married and would they lie to be her bridesmaids. They agree. Isabel also reveals Max doesnt now yet. Max starts schmoozing with Cal's friends - saying in detail his plans and what's been happening to him with the spaceship (except pretending its his idea for a film). Isabel arrives home to find Michael in her room saying is this a joke? Isabel wants to be happy, Michael's had Maria, Max has Liz, this is her one chance at happiness. Isabel plans to tell Max when he gets back. Isabel wants Michael to congratulate her. He says 'on what?'
As Cal's guests leave the party, Cal says - hey Max, stick around, i got some ideas to throw at you. As soon as everyone leaves, Cal throws Max against a wall. Cal says the ship will never fly. It turns out Cal can't kill Max, he's had plenty of chances, he can't cos he's Max's protector. Max says he's not going anywhere until Cal helps him. Back at the Crashdown, Maria cant fathom how Max is gonna take the new of Isabel's engagement. Isabel's mother enters and tries to pry info on Max out of Liz - including his new cellphone number. She says no, and Mrs. Evans leaves defeated. Maria thinks its so romantic that Liz will stick up for Max in that way. Liz says Max never called last night. She's been trying to convince herself he's not caught or hurt. Maria says Liz should call him.
Max turns up at Cal's the next morning, Cal is getting a massage. Cal doesnt feel anything, or taste anything. He says he's learnt to diminish his alienness. He hasnt shapeshifted for ages. He's starting to taste/smell some things. His home is now California. He gets a call on his mobile (very flash - state-of-the-art) Max says, if it's that amazing hand it over. Cal obliges, says it's yours. Max is amazed. Mrs. Evans walks in on Isabel and Jesse making out, asking for the name of some people to do invites. Isabel says its in her planner - her mother says go back to what you were doing and goes to get the name herself. She leafs through, coming across Max's new mobile number. She calls him and reveals Isabel's engagement. He talks a short time and hangs up.
Max asks why did Cal give him his phone. He tries an experiment with Cal - asking him to get him some icecream. He realises that when he gives a direct order Cal has to follow them. He says that they are going to find the ship. Cal gets to see the ship saying its going to be a prop - authenticity. Max is an 'intern'. Michael and Isabel have another discussion about Jesse, Michael thinks it's selfish that Isabel wants to bring Jesse into it. The wedding planner turns up and Isabel learns her mother has been trying to organise things behind her back. The one place she really wanted to have it had an opening and Mrs. Evans declined. Max rings Isabel and asks why is she getting married. Isabel is sick of being bossed around by Max, her mother, and Michael.
Back with Cal, the Pentagon has said its a no go for Cal to see the ship. He and the security guy talk over the fact that it's a hoax. They both agree, but it doesnt get them anywhere. Cal tells Max the ship is there. Isabel confronts her mother that she shouldnt have told Max, it was her news to tell. Her mother doesnt want the wedding to happen, she wanted to slow things down. She says it hasnt been a year since Alex and continues to say reasons why Isabel shouldnt do it. Isabel bitterly says 'thanx for your support mom'. Cal and Max have broken into the ship hangar. Cal goes to leave. He says, 'oh, forgot to mention you need the key' Max replies 'oh, i forgot to mention, i have it - and your my pilot'. Cal tries to convince Max they shouldnt go. Max says - we're coming right back and orders Cal to shapeshift. If Cal does, any senses that he has developed will leave him. He beams himself into the ship.
Maria and Liz start talking, Liz had made Max a box full of things (a pic of her, a video, food etc.) and she's upset Max hasnt called. Maria says when things like that happen to her theres only one thing to do - take it out on Michael. The spaceship has started to hover. Max's mobile rings - Caller-ID says it's Liz, he turns off his phone. Suddenly, the spaceship falls down with a bang. A hatch opens and Cal says too much damage from the inital crash is done. Isabel tries telling her mother that she's getting married in two weeks, she wants her mother to be a part of the wedding - she says she cant. Michael arrives at the door. He and Isabel talk when she goes for a walk,she says she's all alone still, he gives her his blessing for the marriage. Max tries to revive Cal - Cal says everything he's worked for has gone thanks to Max. Cal says he (the King) has always been selfish, and he will always hate him for that. Cal says think of all the loved-ones you almost left behind. He says the more you embrace your alien side, the more youre gonna lose. Liz is alone, cleaning up at the Crashdown. Max turns up and apologises, crying. They hug. |
