Michael breaks into the UFO centre to find an address for James Atherton's geodesic dome as he wants to follow the visions he has been having. Michael is caught by Deputy Blackwood and Milton and this leads to Michael being arrested. Max saves Michael from jail by telling Milton that he lent Michael his key to do research at the museum.
Michael tells Max that he wants to follow-up his visions and go to Atherton's house (which is in Marathon, Texas) Max tells Michael that they need to lay low, especially as Valenti is still suspicious of them.
Michael steals Maria's car (with Maria still inside!!) and the two argue the whole way, until Maria figures out that Michael just wants to know who he is, where he came from, and why he's on Earth. Maria's car breaks down along the way and the two are forced to spend the night in a motel room together.
When Max, Liz and Isabel discover Michael and Maria missing, they decide to pursue them. Isabel is unsure about Liz's involvement in the matter, but Liz insists that she wants to go. Valenti decides to privately follow the search party and join in with the search when he overhears Kyle talking about Liz's recent odd actions. Topolsky orders FBI Agent Moss to shadow them all in his car.
On the road, Max, Liz and Isabel hit a roadblock. While Isabel goes to find out what the problem is and how long it will take to sort out, Max apologises to Liz for everything he's gotten her into. Liz then apologises to Max for possibly exposing them when Isabel interrupts their 'moment' to point out Maria's car in the carpark of the motel.
The three burst into the room to find Maria and Michael lying on the floor. Kyle then arrives, and Michael orders him to get out - the confrontation then turns physical. Liz tells Kyle that they are no longer together, that it's over, and that he should go home.
Kyle leaves and Liz demands to know everything that's going on. Michael, Max and Isabel explain the significance of the mystery key - that it could lead to finding out who they are - and that they are following up on the lead. Liz feels they whould all go to the dome together.
When they reach the dome, they discover that the key Michael took from Valenti's office was in fact NOT to the front door, but down to a secret room that contained documents on the UFOs and the 1947 crash. The kids hear Valenti walking around above them and wait in silence, searching for an escape route. Without warning, Topolsky drop kicks Valenti from behind...
