Liz's personal diary (which contains information and details about the aliens) has gone missing which makes her distressed. Liz realises that if her diary has gotten into the wrong hands, she could be jeopardizing the lives of the people she cares about. Liz tells Maria about her missing diary, and Maria offers to help. Maria ends up hurting Alex when she falsely accuses him of taking the diary.
Upset, Alex confides in Topolsky about the missing diary who then places a call to the government she is secretly working for, telling them that she wants to find the diary herself.
While Max is poring over the books in the UFO museum, Liz tells him that her diary is missing, but it has to turn up somewhere soon. Max says that he trusts her, though it is apparent that he is nervous about it. He tries to forget the situation by looking through a book on an infamous UFO-logist James Atherton.
Max becomes suspicious that perhaps Kyle has taken Liz's diary, and later, he and Liz break into the Valenti home to search for the missing diary. Unsuccessful, they barely escape just before Kyle arrives home from and in the meantime, they don't know that a mystery man was also searching for the same item.
Max tells Isabel and Michael about Liz's lost diary. Michael then goes to visit Liz at The Crashdown to tell her that he was the one who took the diary saying he just wanted to make sure that the contents wouldn't jeopardize their lives. Michael realizes that Liz hasn't written any facts about the aliens, rather just her own personal thoughts.
The visions that Michael has been receiving from the mystery key have been becoming clearer and Michael becomes obsessed with finding the place he has been seeing in his visions. Drawing this place down on a piece of paper, it is revealed that he has been seeing a geodesic dome. He feels that the place has something to do with the fourth alien. He tells Max and Isabel that the key he stole from Valenti's office must open a door to a dome. While flicking through the UFO book that Max has been studying for information, Isabel notices that the dome image that Michael has been sketching is the same as the geodesic dome house belonging to James Atherton.
