Suspicions about the new girl Tess are raised when it becomes apparent that Max is oddly attracted to her. Not knowing that Liz is watching from afar, Max can't help but kiss Tess. Max attempts to explain to Liz how he couldn't help himself kissing Tess, which raises Liz's own suspicions about Tess' identity.
Isabel and Michael both explore Tess' identity, but neither can prove anything more about her than what is apparent - a normal, human teenager.
Michael and Max discover a hidden video camera in Michael's apartment and they suspect that Tess was the one who hid it there.
Liz decides to take the camera and hide it in Tess' house so they can spy on her. While there, she meets Tess' strange father, Ed Harding, who insists that Liz stay for dinner. As Liz tries to place the camera somewhere where it won't be seen by Tess or her father, she accidentally breaks a small precious statue. Michael, Maria, Isabel, and Alex watch as the screen goes blank.
Fearing that Liz may be in trouble, the four kids go to rescue her from the Harding residence. After they carry out a successful rescue, they go back to watching the camera, and see Tess reconstructing the little statue with alien powers revealing her as the fourth alien. Meanwhile, Valenti goes to check up on Topolsky at the mental hospital where he finds out that she has been killed. Feeling that the kids may be in real danger, he decides that he may be the only one to protect them. Wanting to gain their trust, Valenti takes the communicator orb back to Max.
