| SERIES ONE EPISODE ONE THE PILOT |
| Liz Parker and her best friend Maria DeLuca are working at Liz's father's restaurant - The Crashdown in Roswell, New Mexico. Two customers begin to fight and one pulls out a gun and as Liz and Maria watch them, a gunshot rings through the air. Maria screams as she realises Liz has been shot - and tries to help stop the bleeding. The broody, mysterious, tall dark and handsome Max Evans rushes over to help, and places his hand on Liz's stomach, and they make a 'connection' as he heals her gunshot wound. Without quite knowing what to say, Liz agrees when Max asks her to not say anything of what had just happened. Later, Liz discovers that where Max had placed his hand when he healed her, there is a silver handprint. Liz (ever the rationalist) tries to get a logical explanation out of Max for what just happened. In reply, Max says he's "from up north" and Liz discovers that Max is an alien. Liz is now sworn to secrecy as, if she tells anyone about Max, he could be put in danger. Because of her promise, she has to lie to the people she cares about most - her boyfriend Kyle Valenti, and her best friends Maria and Alex Whitman and her father. Kyle's father/Sheriff Jim Valenti becomes suspicious of what happened earlier at the restaurant and questions Liz about Max. He then proceeds to show her photos from 1959 of a dead man. He tells Liz that this dead man had the same silver handprint on his body that Kyle had seen on Liz. Liz then shows Valenti her stomach (which is now back to normal as the handprint has faded.) Frightened of her discoveries and a bit shaken from her confrontation with the Sheriff, she goes back to Max and asks him to explain everything to her. He tells her and shows her how he can change molecular structure and how they came out of an incubation pod 10 years ago looking like 6-year old humans. When Liz asks what he meant by 'they', he informs her that his sister Isabel, and best friend Michael are also aliens and that they are on Earth all by themselves and that they don't know why they are here. Liz then tells Max about the photos the Sheriff showed her which prove there are more of them, and Max runs off. Not about to give up, Valenti has shared what he knows with FBI Agent Stephens who is skeptical and reminds Valenti that his father's similar obsession with aliens/UFOs was what cost him his career. Valenti comes back with the fact that his father was right all along. Back with Liz, Maria confronts her best friend saying she knows when Liz is lying to her, then demanding to know what is going on and Liz confides in Maria about Max's secret. Max has told Michael and Isabel what Liz told him about Valenti and the photos and concludes that they aren't safe in Roswell andy more and they decide to leave. On the way out of town, they come across Liz and Maria who say that if they run like this, they're only proving Valenti right. Liz says she has a plan to lose Valenti. The plan is carried out later on at the UFO Crashdown festival and works, however, Valenti tells Max it's not over yet and that he plans on finding out the truth. Liz and Max share a moment alone and she thanks him for saving her life. The two agree that they can never be together, even though they want to be. And after what has happened, they both share a strong emotional connection. |
