Yep guys - sorry it's official.  UPN has decided they don't want to pick up Roswell for a fourth season.  The reason they give for this is that the show hasn't pulled in enough viewers (ratings), therefore it is not viable for the network and advertisers..  The final episode ever will screen in America on May 14th.

Some say they are surprised Roswell has lasted as long as it has.  Looking back so am I.  It was set to end after Season one finished.  Through fans' letters (and Tabasco sauce bottles), WB continued with a Season two.  After this season, it looked in trouble again, though UPN came to the rescue and picked Roswell up for a third season (the one we're viewing now).  What irks me, is how come the show could be saved twice by all the fans sending in hundreds of letters and sauce begging to keep it going, and yet the ratings are absolute crud??  Do these ratings count taped episodes? Hmmmm.  Anyhoo, I'm sick of all my fave shows getting axed after such short times.  Buffy is in it's final season (so I've heard) and at least it's had a good run (6 seasons I think???) but what am I supposed to watch when both Buffy and Roswell are finished?  I've been getting into Smallville and Angel, though they aren't quite the same.  The alien elements are still in Smallville, and the Buffy elements are in Angel, but its like sequels.  Never quite the same as the original.

This only leaves several more weeks of Roswell before it finishes forever (as the ads on tv in New Zealand like to say over and over again to rub it in) so I don't know about you guys, but I'm gonna make the most of it.

Executive Producer Jason Katims has said "I would like to thank Twentieth Century Fox Television, UPN and especially our fans whose combined efforts helped get us a third season for Roswell, Ronald D. Moore (the other Executive Producer) and I had the fans very much on our minds when we were writing this final episode.  We felt they deserved a great ending."

The network is calling the season/programme finale a "bittersweet", "powerful" and "heartrending" show.  The few episodes left between now and then are promised to have a couple of twists in the plot, and that many of the outstanding storylines will be resolved.

In case you were interested in the statistics/ratings the show actually got, here they are (from Spacecast.com):
"In the 15 episodes that have aired so far this season, "Roswell" has averaged three million total viewers a week -- ranking it 151st out of a total 186 series that have aired on the six broadcast networks. Among the target demo of 18 to 49-year-olds, it has only managed to average a 1.4 rating/3 share on a weekly basis."

I still intend to keep this website up (though I don't know if it's going to be updated quite so regularly) and perhaps keep it updated on what the actors are up to.  Here's hoping the last few weeks of Roswell are as good as they promise.
