Dharan an introduction:

Dharan, one of the fastest growing major city and metropolis in the eastern region on Nepal.
The story of the name "Dharan" is derived from the time when the area was covered with jungle and people from vijayapur,ward 14 on the ridge overlooking the city, used the vast forest to produce timber products.
Dharan is the word in nepali for the rectangular pit that is made by sawing logs and resting them top of one another..
Dharan lies on the southern slope of mahabharat range where in terai merges with charakoshe jungle.

Pilgrimage spot for different religions.
The major sights for doing "Puja" (Nepali for prayer) include pindeshwor, Dantakali, Budhasubba.Bishnupaduka and Baraha Chhetra temple.
Koshi Tappu Wildlife reserve is the only refuge for Wild Buffalo and is home for more than 300 species of Birds.
Rafting is possible in the Arun and Tamor River.
A pleasant 30 minutes ride north of Dharan leads to Bhedetar where there is views of Himals as well as an overview of the Terai.
It is the major gateway to all the places like Panchthar, dhankuta, Taplejung, Bhojpur, Mt.Makalu, Mt.Kanchanjunga etc.
Treks can be organized in Dharan and non- perishable food items, as well as trekking items and supplies are available in the local market.
