RE: Cars key to future of city, planners told

Bicycles are key to to the future of downtown Kingston. Bicycles are a pollution-free, responsible and healthy way to travel in Kingston's beautiful downtown core. Cars create toxic exhaust, increase our dependence on fossil fuels and cause congestion and unnecessary traffic that should not be part of the future of downtown Kingston. Many streets in the downtown area should be made motorized-vehicle free.

Of course there will be resistance to this change from people who are addicted to driving but it would be wise for them to overcome their fear of change. We must change, our children's future and the health of ourselves and the planet depends upon it.

I hope the results of the city's transportation study are not ignored and that the city does take a "new direction" creating more bicycle lanes and walkways while discouraging unnecessary downtown traffic. This way Kingston will become a world leader in modern city planning.
