Recent research has shown that a significant proportion of Tasmanians (about one quarter) either have diabetes or are at high risk of developing diabetes.
"THE number of Tasmanian children diagnosed with type-one diabetes has increased markedly in the past 12 months. “...an increase of up to 50p.c.
on previous years, Tasmanian chief executive of Diabetes Australia Christopher Stopp said yesterday…"We simply don't know why there has been
such an increase," he said…There were 32 new cases of type-one diabetes diagnosed in adults, which is also very high," he said. . .
The condition is triggered by environmental factors . . ."
