C-130E NAVIGATOR PROFICIENCY FLIGHT REQUIREMENTS
1. Departure monitored – critical
2. Level off position (within 5 mins of reaching altitude and airspeed)
3. Heading check and TAS check (as soon as practical after L.O.)
4. DR positions should be accurately plotted at all fixes, reporting points and turning
points
5. Radar fix (minimum 1 – desired 2)
6. Radar fix (minimum 1)
7. Celestial (minimum of 3 sunlines, 2 night fixes)
8. Pressure pattern (carried for entire portion of flight above 20°N, 3 plop’s plotted, 1
BCDA must be computed)
9. LORAN – minimum of three fixes taken and plotted
10. Doppler/Computer (kept updated with current infor during entire mission)
11. Grid (if required [maintain grid steering for two hours, minimum of 4 grid heading
checks to determine gyro precision. Rate both gyro’s.])
12. Descent and approach monitored – critical
13. ARA (if required) directed A/C to ARA mins from which safe landing could be made
14. Flight Records (entire flight could be reconstructed from records)
