Cairns

Palm Cove

On reaching Cairns we drove north for about 10 miles and decided to stay at one of the beach villages. We struck lucky and got a very good deal on an apartment in a resort hotel so we decided to stay for 7 nights.

Across the road from the hotel the beach stretches south for 14 kms towards Cairns.

The hotel swimming pool is enormous, its warm and salty.

Skyrail

We took Skyrail from the coastal plains around Cairns up into the mountains and over the rainforest to Kuranda, 7.5 kms in all with 2 stops for guided walks of the forest.

Cape Tribulation & Daintree River

Cape Tribulation is the most northerly point on the eastern seaboard of Australia that you can drive to on tarmac roads from there on you need a 4 wheel drive to travel on the gravel roads.

A cable ferry takes you across the Daintree River (left) and then on to Cape Tribulation (right).

We took a trip on the Daintree River and saw a number of snakes, a small croc and nesting birds.
