spoke with an old man
a retired banker about his life
said he was tired
of living for form without substance
he was drawn up and made
through the eyes of high society
and in his lands and his monies
all he could say to me was this

i would trade it all in for some peace of mind

tell me, Lord, what should i say
please don't let me turn away
from this hollow pit
from the belly of this whale
i discard my fears
i'll go to ninevah today

spoke with a young girl
an underage mother shunned from mercy
her father banished her
her mother cried for her daughter's sins
she had no place to go
no one to fall back upon
and with two tearstained eyes
she looked at me and said, she said

i would trade it all in for some peace of mind

tell me, Lord, what should i say
please don't let me turn away
from this hollow pit
from the belly of this whale
i discard my fears
i'll go to ninevah today

this water
is starting
to churn and
i cry out
dear Jesus
please help me
don't let them
throw me
overboard
overboard

tell me, Lord, what should i say
please don't let me turn away
from this hollow pit
from the belly of this whale
i discard my fears
i'll go to ninevah today
