"Mensa provides a forum for intellectual exchange among members. Its activities include the exchange of ideas by lectures, discussions, journals, special-interest groups, and local, regional, national, and international gatherings; the investigations of members' opinions and attitudes; and assistance to researchers, inside and outside Mensa, in projects dealing with intelligence or Mensa." - [Mensa Constitution]
what is mensa? |
Mensa was founded in England in 1946 by Roland Berrill, a barrister, and Dr. Lance Ware, a scientist and lawyer. They had the idea of forming a society for bright people, the only qualification for membership of which was a high IQ. The original aims were, as they are today, to create a society that is non-political and free from all racial or religious distinctions. The society welcomes people from every walk of life whose IQ is in the top 2% of the population, with the objective of enjoying each other's company and participating in a wide range of social and cultural activities.

my association with mensa |
I cleared the Mensa test in March'03 and has been an active member of Mensa Bangalore since then. Mensa Bangalore chapter meets once a month and various events are planned for each meet. Different events that have been held include puzzle solving, word games, debates and demonstrations of various skills by Mensans among others.
I like solving puzzles, playing games of skill and taking part in all sorts of competitive events. In particular, I like quizzes, chess, scrabble, programming contests and puzzle solving. Mensa is an ideal forum for this because of the large number of people who share a similar interest.
for mensa aspirants |
Those who wish to take the Mensa test and become a member, visit the Mensa Bangalore web site where you will find details on how you can take the test. Typically, the test is conducted once every month by Mr Casper Abraham who is the testing authority for Mensa Bangalore.
Those of you who are interested in taking the test but apprehensive about the result, don't worry, statistics reveal that a high percentage of the people who take the test clear it. I guess that this is so because now a days right from childhood everyone is taking part in competitions and by the time you have completed schooling, you will have a good idea about your own intelligence.

The Bangalore Mensans mainly interact on-line through a web based forum, the
hIghQ Plaza. Please be aware that
unless you have a Plaza login account, selected topics only will be visible to
you. There is also a Yahoo! Group for receiving information about meetings and
other important notices.
We also meet once every month for around two hours and try to get to know
each other better and meet new members. The venue and events for the meets are
decided by the Mensa Bangalore executive council and communicated to the
Bangalore Mensans through the on-line forum and Yahoo! group.
