Hangman Gold is a computerised version of the classic word game of the same name. Hangman was originally started as a learning project while I was studying Visual BASIC sometime in 1997. After I completed it I found that it was quite playable and uploaded it on to the net. The game met with quite remarkable success considering that it was nothing but a small hobby project. It received good reviews from various game review sites and a large number of people downloaded it and wrote to me saying that they enjoyed playing the game. Since it was appreciated by so many people, I decided to improve the game. The result is Hangman Gold.

The Hangman Gold web site was hosted on xoom.com and unfortunately that site got nuked sometime in 2000. After that I have not had much time to update the game or the site, but still the game lived on in many different web sites. Doing a google search for "Hangman Gold" should return you plenty of sites including pages in Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Swedish and Thai.

Aside from playing Hangman Gold for fun, people have used it as a teaching aid for kids and for assisting adults with learning disabilities. Since the game is designed with support for game play using the keyboard alone, it has also been used by kids with physical disabilities who find using the mouse difficult.

I do not maintain a download site for Hangman Gold currently. You can download it from one of the following sites:

Please note that the web sites and mail-ids specified in the Hangman Gold installation bundle are outdated. View the latest README file before downloading. This file also provides help on playing the game, creating new categories and adding new categories to the game.

Once you have download the zip file, uncompress it to a temporary directory using any of the available utilities like WinZip and then run setup.exe. Follow the instructions for installation and once Hangman Gold is installed, you can download the latest set of category files and add that to the installation.
