Fire Eater
acrylic on unstretched canvas
approximately 70” x 70”

Fire Eater is painted in the style and mode of the sideshow banners of the 1930’s through 1950’s era. It’s a real banner and hangs loose by the metal grommets. Although the colors are bright, it has the appearance of having faded somewhat, revealing the brushstrokes.

Jolly isn’t really very jolly and he’s not really a pirate. He really blows out great flames into the air and he really slides long swords into his gullet, but it’s probably the most honest thing he does. Even his friends don’t trust him. Okay, maybe he is a pirate. Note the island on the horizon. There’s a strange glow high on the cliff.
