Our Father Which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdome come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. The original version of this prayer that was Jesus' answer to the question, 'how should we pray?' was written in Greek in the New Testament. The word Hallowed is hagiazo (hag-ee-ad'-so) and is defined as: to make holy, purify, or consecrate. Notice in the prayer how we are to ask our Father to "deliver us from evil"? I've heard the original meaning of Halloween was actually All Hallowed Eve and was referring to a harvest time celebration. God harvests people just like you've seen farmers harvest their crops. There are some weeds. There are many possible perils that can ruin the good crop and harvest. Harvest is a good time to pray to be delivered from evil and have a blessed crop. But, it's probably a good idea to pray for deliverance from evil from the very beginning, as the first clod of dirt is turned to make the soil ready for the seeds and pray for deliverance from evil as the seeds are sown, and pray for deliverance from evil as the rains come as well as at the end Harvest time. There is evil in this world that will try to ruin God's crop. We rejoice when our harvest is a good and blessed one and evil is overcome. Jesus gave US the power to kick Satan out when we say to Satan, The Lord rebuke thee! Kick some evil booty, this Halloween or All Hallowed Eve! Our daily bread is our food. We need to be filled with good food in order to fight a good battle. God said "Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord." Amos 8:11 And when Jesus was sitting in the face of evil, Satan's tempting and taunting, "If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread." But He, (Jesus) answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:4 Have your soul and spirit been fed? Only God's Word will fill that hunger. Check out www.shepherdschapel.org for a great Bible study that goes line by line and accepts everyone. It is non-denominational, of no particular religion. Just a Bible study. The views here are my own after careful study and reflection. I do not represent The Shepherd's Chapel in any way. As with ANYONE, do not take MY word for it, take God's Word and check it out. If it agrees with God's word, it's worth something. |
