| The Saturday morning of our wedding, Alex and I planned to get up at 7:00 but slept in till 8:00. I took my shower first and then made lattes for everyone. Our house was full! My mom was in the guest room, Uncle Paul was on the couch, and Kathleen and Rhett slept on a blow-up mattress on the floor. Uncle Paul was supposed to stay with Memere and Pepere at their hotel room, but they didnt come Friday cause Pepere was sick with the flu. We were pretty worried that they wouldnt be able to come at all, but when Mom called them that morning, they werent home, which meant they were on their way to Austin. (they had a 4 hour drive).
Saturday morning was pretty slow. It was dark and pouring rain all morning. We only have one bathroom, but suprisingly, everyone got a hot shower with no problems. I did my own hair, and it turned out pretty good. I also did my makeup and I was happy with it. I wore ugly sweats and a button up work shirt so I looked pretty funny. We all just sat around while everyone got ready. Rhett went to a camera shop and picked up the video camera that I rented, and he and my uncle figured out how to use it. They filmed Alex and I practicing our dance that we had put together for our first dance. At around 11, Dad and Mona brought over some food for everyone. We had meat, cheese and crackers, honey buns, bread, and fruit. Then, at around noon, Alexs parents, Brad, and Chelsea came over. They were already dressed, and they helped Alex put his tux on. Meanwhile, KK and Jen had gone to get their hair done and they came back. I was getting antsy and wanted to hurry up and get the flowers to the church. At 1:00 we all went to the church. Jen, KK, Chelsea and I went into the cry room / brides dressing room to get me dressed. It was sooooooooooooooo cold in there! I mean, like ice cold! I got dressed pretty quickly, and then we just had to sit in there while people came in. Since the room was the cry room, it had windows to the church with blinds over them to hide us while changing. Finally, the music started. There was a speaker in the room where we were, so we could hear the vocalist, but we couldnt hear the organ very well. The vocalist was the husband of a girl I work with, and he was soo good! He sang the Ave Maria while the mothers were walked in. Apparently, both of Alexs grandmothers cried when he sang this. Then, it was time to come out. The bridal party walked out to Cannon in D. When it was my turn, the music got louder. My heart was pounding! I had not been nervous at all till I was standing there. I was breathing fast, and kept telling myself to calm down. Dad walked me down the aisle and when he gave me away to Alex, I nearly started crying. Then, as we held hands, I felt better and was calm and happy through the rest of it. Alex told me that he nearly cried when he first saw me. So, see, even though we saw each other all morning long, that first moment when he saw me in the church was still magical. The ceremony sped by. My knees were locked and I had to shift feet a bunch. Then, we kissed and hugged and walked back down the aisle and we were married!!!!! After the ceremony, we were supposed to go outside then walk around to the back door into the church for pictures, but since it was raining, we just walked back up the side aisle to the front. We took a ton of pictures, but all very quickly since the church only gives you 30 minutes to do it. Meanwhile, Rhett had been videotaping the whole thing from the balcony. He did a pretty good job! It is very hard to hear us on the tape, but he zoomed in on all the right parts, and it looked fabulous. After the photos, my dad drove Alex and I over in our Explorer to the reception site. About 5 cars followed us. We had wanted to drive ourselves in our silver convertible, but, like I said, it was raining. Actually, it had stopped by then, but it was still yucky and cloudy and wet, and could have started up again at any time. The reception was supposed to be on the rooftop. They have a great view and it is roomy, and that is why we chose that place, but we had to have it inside. It really wasnt bad, though, cause the inside opened up to a courtyard that went up to the roof. It was a little tighter in there, and they had to move tables after we ate to make a dance floor, but it all worked out. So, we got there, and after a little bit, we ate. Alex and I got to go first! Ha ha! We ate and drank and visited with everyone there for about an hour and a half. Then, the DJ had everyone all go up to the roof for the champagne toast. We took pictures up there with the view, and Corey, our best man, gave a toast. His speech was awesome! He was one of the friends of Alexs that I had worked with at Bennigans. He told the story of how, one day, a shy, quiet, sweet girl started working with him at Bennigans. Oh, and Becky started working there too! Ha ha. Then, he sang a little song to us that he made up. I really lost it and started boo hooing then. Then, we all went back downstairs for the cake cutting and dancing. The cake turned out really great! Too bad all I got of it was the bite Alex put in my mouth! (We have the whole bottom and top tiers in our freezer right now, so Ill get some eventually!) Right before the cake cutting, as we went down the stairs, the DJ played I wanna grow old with you by Adam Sandler from the Wedding Singer soundtrack. I had dedicated that to Alex cause I know how much he loves Adam Sandler. Then, Alex and I did our first dance. We did some slow swing dance steps and turns to The way you look tonight by Sinatra. The DJ cut the song off before the end, and we were left just standing there, so I looked at Alex, we shrugged, and did the dip we had practiced for the end right there, with no music! I was so happy that it really didnt matter. My dad and I danced to Butterfly kisses, and Alex and his mom danced to What a wonderful World. Then, the DJ played lots of fun dance songs and people came out and we had a ball just dancing around. Alex danced with my mom, and I danced with Alexs grandfather, and he was pretty good. Now I know where Alex got his natural ability from! I also danced with my grandfather, which was pretty nice cause he still wasnt feeling well. After the dancing, it was time for the bouquet toss. I went halfway up the stairs to the roof and tossed it down to the ground while they played Girls just wanna have fun My sister caught it! Then they did the garter toss to Lets get it on. Alexs 17 year old brother caught it! I forgot to mention, when I was getting ready at the church, the blue garter I bought completely came apart as I tried to put it on my leg! Luckily, we had that pink one that my sister had bought for the bachelorette party, so she stopped at my house on her way to the reception and picked it up! Its a good thing, too, that I had my toenails painted blue, so I still had my something blue! After the tosses, it was 6:30 and time to go. My dad went to get the car and everyone had bubbles in the courtyard. We walked through the bubbles and out to the explorer, where I got in the back because I didnt want to walk out into the street on the passenger side. I then climbed over into the front, and broke the arm rest thing in the center console. We drove off to our hotel, and the rest is history! |
